AMD cards are powerful but gpus are made for gaming and thats where amd problem is because nvidia has most of the games (ie) the physx and the gameworks if u want the fancy extras in your game u need nvidia card also nvidia have the better game driver support over amd , i think its main reason nvidia are on top and biggest problem for amd sales more games are optimized for nvidia got gameworks and better drivers
Um, what? It has to do with AMD not pushing their gaming evolved program. If they put more effort pushing that program to developers I'm sure you would see more games with AMD technologies. If AMD put forward the effort to get games optimized for their hardware then things wouldn't be the way they are. Stop crapping on Nvidia when the performance issues AMD Radeon owners face are 100% AMD's fault because they don't seem to care. Nvidia Gameworks is crap anyways as most of the time it isn't even optimized for games that use it, and it tanks the performance. I can't even remember how long it took for Gameworks to get optimized in FC4 enough to where I could run it without the FPS tanking into the teens, and I'm running 2x GTX 980's. There are very few games where it even runs perfect out of the box (Shadows of Mordor is the only game I can think of I didn't have any problems running with Gameworks features enabled at release). Most games with Gameworks have needed multiple patches in order to get it to work without killing performance. Even so there are still many games that use Gameworks that run like **** with it enabled, and it doesn't matter whether you using an AMD or Nvidia card.

if you playing 1920x1080p then gtx 980 sli will max out farcry 4 with gameworks 60 fps coz my 970 sli would do 60fps , at 1440p you be 60fps most time maybe drop below , i can max out witcher 3 at 1440p dsr with hairworks on and most time its 60 fps but battles it drop down in 50,s but at 4k noway turn of AA leave hairworks on at ultra i get about 30 fps at 4k with 970 sli
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/211/211933.jpg
Doesn't matter, gameworks is a joke anyway. It cripples performance in literally every game no matter if you have AMD or Nvidia. Witcher 3 for example, with hairworks on it drops fps by around 15-20fps!!! That is huge and it doesn't even look that good. AMD TressFX in Tomb Raider looked outstanding and it barely hit fps on my old HD7970 and when I got a GTX970 it also barely touched the fps, in SLI 970's now that I have it maybe knocks off 1fps. Very optimized. Most of Nvidia's stuff from PhysX, HBAO+, Hairworks, etc all do nothing but drop fps for a very small increase in IQ.
So true, and most of the times the physx seems out of place, like an object shatters in too many pieces unrealistically or too many particles that blow in the wind in a place where wind doesn't blow or stuff like that, i'd prefer something toned down that isn't as exaggerated and has alot less performance impact.

ive got 970 sli and its not gameworks which cripple my performance, the biggest problem i get in games is running out of vram and at 1920x1080p im running out the 3.5gb vram , gta 5 if i turn everything up to max i run out vram at 1080p , so this new fury x how it will play games at 4k with 4gb vram

I have a GTX 980 and for the past couple of months the NVIDIA drivers have been terrible. Drivers crash even when I'm just browsing the internet on chrome. And if I turn shadowplay on I can't play CS:GO because of frequent crashes.

this is what i've been waiting for (i just hope those figures are correct) if the pricing is also correct then this card comes in 200$ AUD cheaper than the GTX980TI for pretty much the same performance...Nvidia drivers have been woeful for the last 3 releases, i hope ATI pull another 4890 trick, i loved that card, of course we'll have to wait until all this is confirmed, but it looks good so far
data/avatar/default/avatar15.webp
We will all have to wait and see how they really perform in DX12 games, when they are available, It's where these cards will really shine, whatever it is nvidia or amd. Both new current nvidia and amd cards claim to play smooth at 4k, so far in DX 11 games, it is not so smooth imo. I mean flawless 60fps+ at ultra settings, and with a single card of course. This will happen with dx12, so its now really up to the game developers to do the magic and give us amazing Graphics With dx 12 and these cards 🙂

when i had AMD card i was always getting problems with the drivers , one was when you install it used popup internet explorer and or cmd prompt and sometimes crash , on crossfire get an errors no crossfire bridge and i had youtube crashes when trying watch videos bug with flashplayer , and the catalyst conveter wouldnt install sometimes, nvidia ive never had any blue screen or problems and the nvidia control panel so much better and also nvidia have the drivers ready for every game with sli
Not for me. Got a problem only once for 1.5 years using.

It's funny, AMD always gets **** on when the discussion of drivers come up. I ran my HD4850 for 6ish years and not once during that time frame did I have a driver related game issue. In fact the only problem I had with that card was the inadequate single slot cooler. Had to put on an Arctic Cooling unit at some point.
When you say you didn't any problems, you're referring to crashes, I assume, but that's only one purpose of the drivers. Another, which is as equally important, is optimization. If you have no driver updates for years, then there is no way that the newest games are optimized for your graphics card. This is why Nvidia are the leader. As well as quality hardware, they offer superior driver support. Regular driver support is the main reason I -- and many others -- would never switch back to AMD.

Sometimes when you have problems with drivers, and others say they dont, its your computer fault. Bunch of programs runing in background, bunch of scraps from uninstalled programs remain in registry or windows temp etc. Sometimes you need to clean the windows 'till blead you know? 🙂 If errors still persist reinstall windows or you have hardware trouble.

I've been on this 970 from it's release day and I've only ever had any kind of crash in TW3 (which everyone had). Other than that, I've never had a bsod, driver crash, freeze or any other issue. Same goes for AMD, I've had "driver stopped responding" there on one driver and that's it. Honestly, majority of people's issues are pebkac.

Having had AMD and Nvidia video cards in systems in the household for years, it's undeniable to me that the Catalyst drivers still are less polished and generally have more issues that Nvidia's GeForce drivers and are harder to tweak. That said, while they are still a bit behind Nvidia drivers, they have made great progress in recent years (while arguably, Nvidia has started regressing some and also had some huge faux-pas in the past with drivers that disable your card's fan, etc.). The most headaches I've had with AMD cards is with Crossfire support for games. While with Nvidia it's alot easier to figure out your own SLI compatibility bits using Nvidia Inspector, with AMD cards you didn't have that for a long time, then came RadeonPro that allowed you to use the profiles from other games and it finally made it into Catalyst drivers where you can now set the profiles from other games manually. Problem being, that you have to hope CrossfireX profiles from another game work for this new game AMD doesn't support yet (and at times it takes many months until they add CrossfireX support for certain games to their drivers or none at all - same happens at times for Nivida but more often than not they have working SLI profiles - and yes, I do realize Nvidia and their Gameworks program is mostly to blame for it - for the latest games shortly before launch or at launch, even though it's gotten worse lately). You can't create any custom CrossfireX bits for AMD cards, though like you can with Nvidia via Nvidia Inspector. The same problems as for CrossfireX apply to forcing custom Anti-Aliasing (like Rotated-Grid Supersampling that's still the best quality consumer grade Anti-Aliasing and still beats Nvidia's Sparse Grid Supersampling which is close but not as good in terms of quality and performance) to games as well, but it's even harder to get it to work, since there are no compatibility settings in the driver at all (except using the no longer updated RadeonPro to force some profiles from other games), while you can once again freely experiment with Antialiasing bits on the Nvidia side using Nvidia Inspector. Being an Antialiasing whore that I am (yes, I am one that even sees the need for it at high resolutions/DSR/VSR), Also, AMD has had dynamic clock issues when in CrossfireX for seemingly an eternity, where you have to disable ULPS on certain cards to get your second card to clock up properly when gaming and back down again when in 2D mode, which of course lets it run at higher clocks and voltages than intended 24/7 and lowers the lifespan of the cards (AMD cards have died alot more often on me than Nvidia cards - on my Alienware M18x-R2 laptop alone, I've had to replace seven(!) AMD Radeon 7970Ms under warranty since I've gotten it, while my brother who got Nvidia GTX 680Ms still has his original ones rocking his laptop and he's overclocking the snot out of them 24/7 while I haven't done so on my Radeons). These are the biggest gripes I've had with AMD and their drivers. I love the hardware features, though, it's always innovative and newer technology-wise, their image quality is usually better than Nvidia's and their pricing is fairer. If my friend hadn't traded me his Titan X that he just couldn't get to work on his Motherboard for my pair of 4GB 680s, some RAM and some old peripherals I had laying around, I'd have likely gone with a Fury X if the performance in games was really in the ballpark of Titan X/980 Ti levels, since it appears to be such an attractive product. 🙂

Exactly. I'm so pissed about reading who has the best drivers. They are both about equal now. I had some problems with my 290 at the beginning, but it turns out it was HW related. PC's ae not consoles, we ALL have different systems in some way or another, be it RAM or sightly different BIOS's or whatever. There are SO many variables. I'm very excited to see Hilberts review of the Fury X, it shouldn't be long now. :) a few days at the most.

Yeah, AMD really need their version of Inspector, I can't believe they haven't realized that yet.

Anyone see the PCGamer twitch last night ? I couldn't stay up to 3am.

I think people are just stuck in the past with drivers. AMD used to have the poorer drivers, but were talking, 3-4+ years ago... They have since improved to a point where I'd say they are pretty even. Both have their downsides and bugs from branch to branch, but, so does all software... The rest comes down to personal preference. I like Nvidia currently, but would I stay away from AMD due to drivers? No. It wouldn't be a factor in that decision!

They likely have pretty advanced GPU control studio software. How do you think CF profiles come to life (considering their complexity).

So... Is it legit to say Fury-X = 980ti watercooled? Maybe slighly above but not that much right?

Totally agree. This 970 is my first Nvidia for many years, havent had any problems with ATI drivers at all. Had 2 crashes with 970 in early days and thats it. Some people are simply too green or too red. I simply want better performance for less money 😀

Not until a proper review no
