Do we know if older gpus get any new features? Up until now, they took nothing, except anti-lag.

Performance wise at least there's a couple of gains here and there for Navi and nothing much at all for older GPU models. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/e8qylj/amd_radeon_software_adrenalin_2020_driver_update/
On average, at 1080p resolution, Polaris (RX 590) saw no performance improvement (below 1%). Our 22-game-strong test suite showed FPS increases for only very few titles: Devil May Cry 5 sees a solid 5% improvement, we could also spot tiny upticks in Tomb Raider, and Gear 5 at 1080p, but all the other titles are just as fast as before, at least there is no performance loss with the new drivers. Things look a bit better for Radeon Vega owners, here we measured the same improvements in Devil May Cry 5, Gears 5 and Tomb Raider, but also spotted a noticeable FPS uplift in Control. AMD's latest Navi architecture seems to be the focus of optimization nowadays, showing substantial gains in a lot of titles — a surprisingly long list: Anno 1800 (+5%), Civilization VI (+3%), Devil May Cry 5 (+12%), F1 2019 (+2%), Gears 5 1080p (+6%), Hitman 2 (+7%), Rage 2 (+7%), Tomb Raider (+1%), The Surge 2 (+3%), Witcher 3 (+2%). Overall, these improvements add up to an average of +4.8% — pretty impressive. When averaging over our whole test suite, including games that saw no improvement, the gains are still a very respectable 2.5%, which is enough for the Radeon RX 5700 XT to finally beat NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at 1080p, and trade blows with it and the Radeon VII. This 4% performance improvement helps it close in on the 25%-pricier RTX 2070 Super. The RTX 2070 Super is now only 5% faster than the RX 5700 XT.
Could differ depending on resolution though as this was 1920x1080 and there's apparently something for Vega but no numbers(?) and mainly on the newer AMD supported games. (But those might have been mostly what was tested against so.) And about Boost. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/e8qzp9/radeon_boost_tested_is_amds_new_performance/
TL ; DW : Only supported in 8 games so far, all DX11 (or in their DX11 mode) The resolutions drops to 3 tiers depending on the intensity of the mouse movement : at 83, 66 and 50% of your native resolution. You can set any of those tiers as the minimum resolution in the drivers if you don't want it to drop too low. With a base resolution of 4K the drops in resolution are generally hard to notice in motion. At 1440p 66 and 50% of resolution are below 1080p and can be noticeable. Tim doesn't recommend using the feature with a base resolution of 1080p. "How noticeable" also depends on the game : it's harder to notice the drop in resolution in fast paced shooters when you focus on the action/movement, but easier in third-person single player games where you tend to have slower movements and more of a focus on the scenery. It's also more noticeable on static stuff in the middle of the screen such as your gun or your character in a third person view. One noteworthy example is Lara's hair getting all shimmery when the resolution drops in Tomb Raider. Performance gains vary from game to game (depending on what kind mouse movement you tend to make), and average framerates don't really reflect that very well. Frametime/framerate curves show that the performance can vary quite a bit in some sequence when the resolution drops kick in. Because the performance can suddenly increase noticeably when you move the mouse, it can be jarring. Again, depends on the type of game and how sensitive you are to that sort of thing.
EDIT: And the reported average is a bit meh for how that result was gotten but it is how it is, there's gains but it varies from game to game some a bit more and some a bit less so just saying "5%" isn't strictly accurate but eh it's how it is. EDIT: And for boost it seems to ignore framerate it merely drops 1 - 3 levels depending on setting based on just mouse movement alone.

Hilbert I hope you will do a few benchmarks between the latest older driver and this new one?

Looks like some decent gains with navi cards. I didnt expect further improvements for polaris and vega.

Looks good and glad to see it...what's great about this is that apparently all the features are operational--quite unlike the Adrenalins when Raja shipped them, IIRC. Also, I am reminded of "Radeon Pro" which some of you might remember--but not much--this looks far better with more meaningful/custom options, apparently. Didn't AMD hire the guy who did Radeon Pro? Can't quite recall--that was a long while back--not even sure if that was the name of the software. Anyway, great to see them doing this! Adrenalins were getting a bit long in the tooth, although Wattman didn't bother me at all--had no trouble with it. Trick to Wattman was saving the profile once you set it up like you liked it--that way if the settings in Wattman were lost for any reason restoration was always just a button-click away in "Load the Profile". Positive change is always good, however!

cant wait to try this BOOST setting, all i play is pubg and csgo. i should be able to notice any performance and/or image quality changes. [hopefully not notice image quality changes lol]

I hope they fixed some bugs around Wattman. On Polaris cards, they lost the profile after a suspend-resume-cycle and on Vega I did get absurd high minimum voltage while using a custom profile (900 mV with a 144 Hz display). Otherwise I like it more than MSI Afterburner, as I need the more fine-grained options to get the best undervolt out of my Vega.

I have to remain silent until drivers actuary release.but yes there are gains for older gpus.than navi...how much I cannot say. Wattman is totally different in fact it is no longer called wattman. I have already said something about this.

How come you have access to the unreleased driver?

Ask around is all I will say. People here know.We keep my secret and do not ask more then I can disclose. If I ignore a question most people know why but most do not even ask a question I am bound by a NDA. and I respect the NDA. Respect goes both ways.

My god... the waiting.... it's killing me... Btw - Hardware Unboxed posted a nice review on their YT channel.

Seriously I disclose what I can when I can...and not one moment before. This is the end of the year stuff, y'all do not even know what is involved to keep it all secret and nor will I say...just be patient for the last minute hitch with MS to be worked out. I have not been able to post benchmarks or even beanchmark for a while now. I am only stating this to try and help people understand. And most likly I will get in trouble for this post.

Radeon Boost sounds pretty cool. I know some console games have already done this dynamic res scaling in the past. Would be interested to hear people's opinions of it here after they've tried it out.

According to the twitch feed which is all I can confirm is the driver is waiting WHQL certification

ok fair enough.
Krteq:

It's called "Vanguard Program" - AMD Radeon™ Software Vanguard Beta Testers
Thanks, I wasn't aware about this program. Though I have done fair bit of driver testing before (was once part of AMD GPU driver testing team).

Totally understand you mate. Keep up the good work (and respect the NDA). We can wait for a few moments more... Anyway would be interesting -- after the drivers drop to hear your internal/initial thoughts about them, maybe some testing results, some observations/tips ? E.G. I've read that by the end of installation - as a pro user - you shouldn't select any profile - just skip it (if you want to have full control), else it can lead to some settings not saving correctly etc..

I am waiting today as everyone else I have said as much as I can.
