Looking good, nice preview Hilbert. Cooler master needs a smack across the face for that cooler, bloocking the top PCI-E slot - basic flaw. Might not hinder the usage as there are plenty of other PCI-E ports.

2920X @ 649 looks like good bang for buck being 12 cores and a fair price that an average consumer might pay - they do for gfx cards so why not cpus. But $1799 for SOHO "consumer class"? Who will pay that and what software other than a benchmark would actually use it? Our software is so far behind these core counts, we need actual progress in frequency increase rather than gluing cores together. I would gladly take 8 cores at 5GHz over 16 cores at 3.5.
there is a large market for these cpu's. mostly pro/am, with "content creators" needing highly clocked multi-cores. and there is quite a bit of case specific software that can thread as highly as your processor count. the most obvious of which is in transcoding and batch conversion, but pro video is coming a long way towards this as well. games, not so much...the most threaded games i know (off the top of my head) use only four threads. and as far as "gluing cores together"... you are suffering from old perceptions as Intel is doing that too. In fact, all cpu's in the future will be "glued together" as a means of working around Moore's Law.

excellent point as threadripper is all about i/o. there will be loads of pcie M.2 adaptors looking to populate almost every slot.

Ray-Trace/rendering software can and will make use of the cores. Likewise video editing and compilation, etc., which lots of people do today. These cpus are only for the (many) people who pine for more cores and performance--they already own the software, in most cases. But of course they are definitely not for the "average consumer" who is now doing little more than running an undemanding game or two on his grossly underpowered laptop...;) There's a much larger market than you might think--and don't forget the server market where the server versions of these monsters will easily dominate in both performance and price. That's where the real money for AMD is--always has been.

That 2950X is looking very juicy @ $900. 16/32 is plenty enough for years of enjoyment.

Now this is what i call a monster CPU!!! For me this kind of CPUs are basically useless but damn, that thing is really impressive! And Intel has very little to counter this beast, very well played by AMD. So whoยดs going to buy a 2990WX!???

Ah, hell, soon all the rumours can be deleted with actual numbers. But before that, enjoy playing with those chips! ^^

only $1,799.99 .......:p
Yeah, no pre-orders for me. That's a bit more than I can chew right now - I'll probably wait for a sale or something (there were some incredible deals on TR 1 a few months after launch). And they say AMD is only for low budget customers, LOL.

Maybe, just maybe finally time to get back on the Red team and ditch this old and dusty 2683 of mine. 14 core 28 thread is starting to be a bit on the low side.... ๐Ÿ˜€ Also I have got upgraditus since I got this CPU/setup nearly 3 years ago :P

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I need it now, that CPU is insane!

Fucking monstrous CPU. The next two years are going to be ridiculous in the CPU realm (hell, so was the last year). Intel will respond with 28 core (maybe, might be vaporware), and AMD will respond with Zen 2 7nm. Think how retarded things might get on server and HEDT chips once that happens. Its all about E-peens now boys, and AMD once again has the biggest. Their CPU division is on fire, lets hope they can maintain that into the 7nm generation and beyond. They need some help in the GPU division though. I have a feeling Nvidias next gen GPUs (about to be announced) are going to be something to behold, I hope AMD can eventually muster something to compete, as they have done on the CPU side.

For anyone interested... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113541 The Preorder page is up on Newegg.
Yeah so is the CND site: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113541&cm_re=AMD_RYZEN_Threadripper_2990WX-_-19-113-541-_-Product man $2,399.99 CND ๐Ÿ™ , if I had the cash I pre-order it right now and roll my 1950x. Going to have to wait a while, damn is it glorious though I admit I want it as a upgrade. LOL does everyone remember when doubling you CPU cores took like 5 to 10 years now it takes pretty much a year turn around with AMD, that is insane + epic!
