So... they have permission from Intel to do this? Or how does that legally work?

China does what China does best.

Probably some legal workaround or some obscure loophole... There's always an way to do some things...

Here's what I'd want to know: Clearly this group got internal knowledge, likely from one of Intel's board partners. They don't have to know a lot, they just have to know enough to copy Intel's homework and tweak the firmware to make it look like their own. While it is possible they have the skills to design their own motherboard, I'd be really interested to see if the boards they make will have a nearly identical design to any other Intel boards, maybe just with some components removed and some other customary network-tapping chip added. If such a board exists, Intel will know who spilled the beans.

My bet is intel itself rebranding stuff to bypass US trade restrictions (free market where?).

If something is considered rebadged, it is usually licensed from original vendor, if it is not, it is considered counterfeit. Cars are rebadged all the time.

Its pretty much an Intel I3 processors, they probably just edited the firmware and hardware ID to show something else. They do this so they can get some of that sweet sweet government subsidie money that the CCP has recently been giving to all its homegrown CPU/GPUs companies (in a way, this company is pretty much just scamming the government). this company does this cause its much cheaper to do this than it is to make your own processors from scratch. The CCP doesnt even care as long as they can provide the numbers they say they can supply and at their rated spec (and bribes paid of course). And as far as i know there doesnt seem to be any licensing agreement for this with intel but then again who knows whats going on behind close doors there. Its a result of the ongoing tech war between china and the west and as way for the ccp to reduce its reliance on western tech (that they cant copy or steal) and bypass western sanctions when it comes to selling western made/designed high end components/chips to countries like Russia,North Korea or Iran that may be used for making components for stuff like Cruise missiles, Drones etc.

Just imagine those Chinese chips would perform better than their Intel counterparts. 😀

They probably would have called it something with "red", "dragon", "people's", "great" or "heavenly" in their name 😀

I am pretty sure they have bought the blueprint for the CPU and maybe an old production line, because reverse engineer or somehow copying the design is very time consuming and dialing in a production line not made for the CPU is adding a lot of extra trial and error and bad yields. I may not remember correctly, but I think the Ryzen 1000 series design was sold to a company in Asia a couple of years ago.
