I hope that is enough VRAM. I mean, I'd rather shell out another 100-200 bucks for a 16GB version because Shadow of Watch Orcs takes up to 8GB of ram which is really pushing it...

Adding another 25W to the 290s' TDP should make those cards even nicer space heaters...

It dosnt take up to 8gb, lol. You can freaken max it out with 4gb.

So sick of these dumb comments.. do You own one or are you just trying to fit in on these forums?? Does it warm up the room like the gtx 280 and 480?? It's really not that hot.. mine never peaks over 85c when it's overclocked to 1170core and 1550 on he memory. My GTx 780ti peaks at 84c when it's overclocked 1250 and 7ghz on memory

My 2 290 cards never go above 60c ever, even when I was litecoin farming, I do have 4 scrythe gentle typhoons fans fitted and 2 intel water coolers fitted that cost me next to nothing and its dead silent to boot 🙂 http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/70-pounds-to-water-cool-2-290-cards.197317/ Why anyone would want anything faster is beyond me. silent cool fast what more can you ask for. And because its running much cooler I can overclock it more and also use less power due to the lower temps.

What you're telling me is that your video card's cooler is capable of keeping it from overheating when I'm saying the GPU's drawing too much power. The fact it can dissipate over 300W only makes it MORE suitable as a space heater. :stewpid:

The fact that you compare it to something that heats up a room (aka Space Heater) proves that you haven't the foggiest of ideas what you are talking about. I understand they draw quite a bit of power but, take it from someone who has no loyalties what so ever, at least call it a power hog or something to that effect not a space heater which implies it runs very hot. Also if you want to be technical, what does the GPU own when you say ^bolded^ ? Chill out mate everyone knows the radeons draw more power. Nobody is at all blundering there. What people don't understand is the reference to a space heater. Then you try to insult your fellow forum supporter w/ I'm with stupid. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Your comments are not clear enough to present a logical or rational argument therefore the only sign you should be holding onto is one that points to yourself.

Apparently you don't know much about A) electronic devices and B) physics or you wouldn't act so insulted and stubborn. A factory OC'd 8GB 290X has a ~300W TDP.
The thermal design power (TDP), sometimes called thermal design point, is the maximum amount of heat generated by the CPU that the cooling system in a computer is required to dissipate in typical operation. Rather than specifying CPU's real power dissipation, TDP serves as the nominal value for designing CPU cooling system
Which means 300 JOULES PER SECOND are converted in completely useless heat that does NOTHING to improve your frame rate. The actual TEMPERATURE that either GPU achieves is IRRELEVANT, as it just means they're being kept from the point of overheating by the cooler that manages to dissipate it fast enough. Even with that 8GB 290X running at 10*C, those 300W are still being spread in the room and are A LOT for a mere video card. As GPU coolers go these days...your average space heater is rated at 1.5kW MAX, so typically running at a setting where it draws 500W-1kW, and compared to aforementioned 300W (especially combined with +~100-150W OC'd CPU, 10-15% PSU inefficiency), it's close enough to the real thing. That has nothing to do with fanboyism, clocks, gaming performance, e-peen, because it's all about physics and characteristics of non-ideal electronic devices. So don't insult someone's intelligence or knowledge when they post something about what YOU choose to ignore, even if it's a harsh reality that needs addressing and truly deserves criticism in a time when the competition has 25% better performance drawing HALF the power on the same fricking fabrication node.
