Just got my PS4 recently so they better not release the PS5 for at least another 5 years!

Makes sense, considering how well the ps4 and pro are selling right now, be interesting to see if xbox will also release at this point. or if they will carry on this leap frog of tech that they have right now. Though i hope they keep with the x64 Arch so we have backwards compatibility

I personally don't see a reason why Microsoft would release yet another console before Sony has made it's next move. I think they're happy with the technical advantage they have right now, question is if this lead matters to the consumers? I think that Sony wouldn't mind having the technical upper hand, especially since game comparison videos between both consoles are somewhat popular. But like you said, it's the sales that decide - and if Sony maintains a lead they might just wait until the time is right for a console launch (fall 2019/2020?).

Though i would agree, i think many people don't care about the difference between 1440p and 1800p which is what i often see as the difference between the two in most cases... Though 2020 would be a nice time to launch they should be able to do 4k Native (hopefully 60fps or more) at that point. But i agree sony have no reason to make a new one right now, theyre selling the console 2 to 1 vs the xbox and theyre bringing out exclusive after exclusive... personally i feel bad for the xbox guys, the backwards compatibility is nice and all but they have had no exclusives for quite awhile with many being cancelled as of late

well at least they got the numbering right (5)...I'm still wondering what to call the first Xbox?

Unless they go mobile like Nintendo, they haven't got much of a choice, especially considering the economics. It'll be another customised AMD APU. Even if Intel got their GPU side up to par, Sony isn't going to raise the console price by 50-100 dollars to put Intel inside. If they got the CPU only from AMD and the GPU separately from Nvidia, it would also both make the console more complicated and cost more.

Those 2013 consoles sucked the moment they chose that "killer" mobile amd fx cpu. At least ryzen isn't 5 steps and a quarter mile behind the competition so any console products with that should at least be reasonable. Along with a less sucky than vega gpu a 2020 console of that make should at least hold up better than current gen has. Kinda glad I didnt pull the trigger on a ps4 pro 2-3 weeks ago.

I got a pro, don't regret it. great to play all the exclusives. though a 4K TV would be needed... Chances are the next lot might also use a AMD processor and it would most likely be part of the Ryzen lot unless they go away from the SOC APU design and go for something else like they did with the ps3... but considering how much that cost them last time i kinda doubt it

Not a bad idea because if they were to release the PS5 sooner than 2020 it would irritate PS4 users and plus it would be at least 7 years after the Original PS4 launch depending when in 2020 the PS5 is going to launch. but I hope they wait at least to 2021-2022 because it will be 4-5 years after the PS4 pro's launch.

I'm betting the new consoles will be pretty strong if they wait til 2020 and use 7nm APU's and GDDR6 and maybe DDR5 i can see 4k being the norm and i mean proper 4k and not any up-scaled BS used now. Hopefully by 2020 APU's will have doubled in power and halved in terms of watts. Next level consoles will be Mid range PC's basically.

The Jaguar cores were not bad, they just weren't clocked very high. Also were not related to the FX, or Bulldozer cores. Curious to see the path that they go with this if true. Sony has worked close with AMD on creating the APU used in the PS4 and the PS4 Pro, but this usually does not mean much if we compare another company that moved from one arch to another. Nintendo used and worked with IBM and ATI/AMD since the Gamecube, and switched to Nvidia and ARM rather fast. Sony also worked with IBM on the Cell, and quickly jumped ship just one generation.

Double in power... Sure, i can see that, not halved watts though... i reckon it would be similar to what we have now just have a lot more power on it... more power per a watt if you want to see it that way. But yeah hopefully true 4k 60fps.... This is when they try pushing for 8k XD

Which will happen first Sony fixes the nasty coil whine the pro has or ps5 is released?, i have gut feeling ps5 will be out before that happens cause i dont see sony fixing the coil whine issue in pro, seeing they keep using cheaper and cheaper parts.. I would love to see a ps5 but i need to NOT be crippled CPU wise, and need to have BC for ps4 games. seeing as they moving away from custom chip and are now using PC chips Till then my 6700k and 1070ti will be remain my go to platform for games, even though i seem to be playing my console more then pc these days

Same here then Backwards compatibility would be very possible and also 4K gaming maybe even more feasible on consoles than it is now with the PS4 Pro and Xbox-one X. I wouldn't mind if they used some kind of Ryzen 8 core setup with maybe 16GB of RAM or so.

RDR2 better be compatible on it, now i can skip the pro and hold on a little longer.

Xbox 1 of-course; Xbox 1, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X. Next gen will be; Xbox 2, Xbox 720, Xbox Two, Xbox Two S, Xbox Two X. Logical.
