Going by recent reports it seems that drive failure is relatively rare in SSds, but data loss (therefore corruption too?) is far more common. So are any of the guys using some kind of drive data snapshot or file integrity checking software to monitor data stability?
Some time back my OCZ Vertex 4 managed to lose/corrupt its Master File Table. For a while I thought I'd lost everything :S
I understand an SSD that is not used for an extended period of time will lose/corrupt its data, does this also apply to data blocks that are not rewritten periodically?

What an honor to be on the frontpage for the second time!
The reason I used the smooth sailing phrase was the fact that I was playing the pirateish AC Rogue at the time, and you can even see Shay Cormac's blade in the screenshot. /nerd off 🤓
Pretty sad to hear that one of the members stopped posting the results, and I'm surprised to find out about the ban as well, especially now that I know who it's about. It's not for me to judge, but there are people and there are well, other people out there. And one rarely knows which is which until it's too late. I will keep my updates coming, even beyond the 2 years mark if need be, since I'm really glad to be of help for my favorite tech site on the internet! :banana:
PS - I still haven't upgraded to Windows 10, but I will... soon™.

The OCZ SSD guru software does have metrics on data integrity although I don't know if that covers all possible issues. You can see it's output in the group test thread:

The issue of corrupting data is something that occurs when the drives are not powered for a long time. It's not related to whether a block is used or re-written.

Interesting information about the benefits of installing a SSD in your console. I can't see allot of people (in that demographic) spending the extra $ for one, but it would be a worthy consideration methinks.

Yeah, I was 99% + sure about that last part I asked about, thanks for the extra input southamptonfc.
The rest however is a little more open... we will see in the end for sure.
