NVMe 1.4 Specification Features: Host Memory Buffer feature reduces latency and SSD design complexity, benefiting client SSDs.
I'm pretty sure Host Memory Buffer (HMB) was introduced in NVMe 1.2 and changes in 1.4 are very minor (new parameters Minimum Descriptor Entry Size and Maximum Descriptors Entries).
