This greedy indie dev buried his head in his ass amidst thousands of posts criticising him for misapplication of an argument about platforms lol.

Poor devs just can't catch a breath, gotta deal with piracy and now this game streaming service?! How dare they! It's a freaking single player.

I kinda don't understand what legal right do these developers have to force Nvidia to remove any game from Geforce Now. The games are not running on the Geforce Now directly, they are running on steam or their respective clients. This feels like the devs are telling ME where and on what kind of computer I can play my games that I already bought.

Currently? None. At all. There is no legal precedent set at the present time so everything going on is within the realm of unlawfullness. Nvidia is trying to stay on side with devs so their policy is to remove any game that is requested, but they could just stop obliging and put the matter to the courts, who will likely take all facts into account and rule against the publishers and studio's since the only reason they are against it is because they can't double dip on profits.

Meanwhile...... Epic Games gives games away for free

This is also something that baffles me. Geforce Now is basically "streaming" our own games, how can companies tell Nvidia to stop prooviding this kind of service??? So strange... But one thing is for sure, Geforce Now is becoming a giant mess...

Nope Geforce Now is a service ... It makes the game available to other people, therefore it's a publishing platform. Developers have the right to licence publishers to publish their games. They get paid publishing rights which probably Nvidia "forgot".

No it does not. Steam is the service that makes the game available, or epic games store or Origin etc... Geforce now is basically a virtual computer lending service. And it should be my own choice what I want to run on the hardware I pay for. By paying for geforce now, you are not paying for any games, you have to own the games already. And if I decide to install my steam game on my PC my laptop or my virtual computer should be only my choice.

If only you ever "owned" a game ... But in these days an age you don't buy a game and own it, you only buy a licence to legally use the game for your own personal use. You now want to run it on Nvidia owned cloud hardware (that you are renting), Nvidia also needs a licence. Of course "you" should not have to pay twice for that game, Nvidia needs to however own one of them. That's the complicated way to just tell Nvidia .. Hey ... you can't just add games to your platform for free, pay the devs if you are going to use the games as an incentive to get more customer, you can't do it for free.

I haven't used GeForce Now so I'm not sure how it works. But I doubt Nvidia has a copy of every game in their library that you can just pick to play. Don't you have to log in with your Steam/Origin account and then it shows all games available to you? What's the difference logging into their computer with YOUR account and playing a game that you own, and logging into my computer with a game I own? I would understand the devs issue with this if Nvidia was providing the game on an account that does not belong to the license owner but this seems silly.

That's fine but the takeaway is that it's another game developer telling me how I should play games I already own because they essentially want to make more money on me from some other service. So I'm going to sit here and talk about why that's a shitty way of doing business and I personally won't be playing or buying any of their games anymore. I hope everyone does the same and perhaps it will change the way we license games and prevent this from happening. Edit: The more I think about it the more I don't even think your argument holds water. The Long Dark doesn't have a 3rd party EULA - if you purchase it on steam it uses steam's EULA. The steam EULA mentions that you're licensing the software but it doesn't restrict use on non-owned hardware (in fact steam supports game streaming). Just because I'm licensing software doesn't mean that the developer can add terms to the license as they see fit. If they want to add those terms going forward to people who buy it - sure - but you can't retroactively apply licensing agreements.

Lost any future business from me, which is too bad, I really really enjoy the Long Dark and think it's a great game. I don't understand why he can't just be honest about the reasons for removal. He keeps hiding behind vague "We should be able to decide what platforms our games are played on" but the only reason to prevent people who have already purchased his game from playing it is because he thinks he can sell them another copy of the game via another streaming service. There's no other reason. He just wants to double-dip and limiting the platforms makes that more likely. It's fucking gross. It's really sad that we constantly have to fight against the developers. I've already fucking paid you the price you told me I needed to pay. Now mind your business and stop trying to reinsert yourself into my life

The platform is steam, the license is with steam, Nvidia is just renting me a PC to play my games on. If your argument is true can they tell me to not install in on a new computer? Or perhaps they don't like asus so I can't use it in conjunction with any asus components? I still remember when EA was attempting to limit the installs of a game to 5, that was a scummy move and there was enough uproar they eventually gave up. Same needs to happen here.

It's crazy but they do, constantly. Software licencing is the "wild west" of modern days, the rule of the stronger.... (bigger wallet)

It appears there is a coup to get Nvidia out of the streaming service, I wonder who could be behind it...?

Yeah I agree, when he says can't he means morally or legally, but yeah practically no one will enforce it because we're talking about a 20 dollar game and a lawsuit that would cost tens of thousands and the only people with standing to bring it up are individuals of comparatively limited means. Then whatever judgement you got would probably only apply to your circumstance and would be limited to, at absolute best, attorneys fees and the price of the game.

I wonder if Nvidia change the service and make it a desktop pc you rent everything you can do on a normal desktop but with remote control . So you install your steam and your games there and then play em ... Will the gaming companies have any say on it ?

In some countries such things aren't legally binding either.

From what have read is that Nvidia didn't ask anyone to support their games through its streaming service while monetizing from those games in through their subscription fees. So is Nvidia at fault here.

Microsoft doesn't ask anyone yet I can subscribe to an azure VM and play my games on them. Why is this different? I'm paying Nvidia for a remote server. I'm paying the publisher/developer for the game. I want to play my game on Nvidia's remote server.
