They are, and it sounds like the prices will go up again, or at least that's what the board partners are counting on.

Once 40 SUPER cards were confirmed to release in January, it became obvious that 5080/5090 is coming end of year. But yeah, all those who held onto their 3080/2080 will reluctantly get a 5080.

Actually, I thought that since the Supers launched in January, they wouldn't release the 5080 until at least 12 months had passed. Always expected the 5090 to come in Q4, though. If the 5080 launches in November this will be the shortest time between a refresh and a new release, no?

My guess, they will keep the 4000 series alongside the 5000 series in full production. So higher prices for the new GPUs without lowering prices for the previous gen. Curious to see what they will do with the 4090 though.

Gotta feel kinda bad for those 2 suckers who bought 4080 Super 😱:D

Prepare for 4090 price crash. Everyone will be getting rid of their 4090 in a hilarious rush of panic and FOMO, making prices plummet to 700€. Happens every gen.

That will entirely depend on the price of the 5080. The article suggests we might be looking at a significant price increase, which would effectively make those cards - as insane as it sounds - affordable. I'm still hoping that this is just the usual rumour mill nonsense and that the 5080/90s will debut at the same price points as Adas.

5080 will launch at lower price than 4080, because it was one of the most unpopular Nvidia GPU's ever. Everything else is just copium from 40 card owners who think their card will hold value forever. GPUs aren't art or luxury cars. They become more and more worthless once they turn 4, 5, 6 years old.

To me a luxury item like a 4090 that is op to 2 years old at that point, would not be worth much more then 700€ anyway.

If RTX 5090 will have still 5nm process, this will have very likely no less than 700W TGP - bad.

Looking forward to it 🙂

5090 and 5080 likely will be the only worthy cards of the 5000 series. 5070 will not reach 4080's level, just like 4070 loses to 3080 in everything but some stray, individual cases. Nvidia mainstream is unworthy, but at least the enthusiast/flagship is good for those with deep pockets.

I wonder how big is the performance uplift going to be compared to the 4000 series.

I wouldn't be so sure tbh. The 3080s and 3090s have retained their value in the first six months following Ada. I was in the market for a 3090 and couldn't find anything in an acceptable price range at the time. I'm sure second hand 4090s and 4080s will easily sell for 70%-80% of their MSRP for at least several months, which is when most people upgrading to Blackwell are going to be selling them. That said, I agree with you - they will not hold their value for long - and by "hold value" I mean that 70%-80%. Either way, exciting times ahead. Let's hope at least some of the performance rumors are true.

I'll wait 1 more year to hopefully get 4090 performance with the 5070.

Problem is these cards with be hot items not only for gamers but for AI professionals and procreators. Can't be priced too low otherwise there will constantly be supply shortages.
