This card is a bit of a disappointment vs the media hype
Of course you would say that.

Only with that price tag. Canadians will be paying $900 after taxes, which is insane for a high-end, non enthusiast level GPU. In 5 months it will lose the performance crown. I'm almost positive big Pascal will be faster than Vega, but I won't be buying GP102/100.

Versus the media hype it is.. A: 12 percent oc gain going to 2ghz, 2.1 not so stable B: The price vs performance C: So much for that 61 temp vs 80+ I never said it is a bad card , it is great but vs all the media hype it is a bit of a letdown

i could already see it around ~800usd in my place and the 1070 around 450-500 T__T

Impressive card. amazing how good power consumption is vs performance. AMD must really step up now or they will be picking up soap all year :P I wont get one of course, since i wont buy gpu's beyond €500 anymore :P

No it's not, it looks to be a fantastic card. Anyone who buys the FE deserves a slap though. Price is too high regardless. AMD needs a counter now, and I'm not talking about some energy sipping midrange yawnfest.

Well it should be known that the 1070 will NOT be faster than an overclocked 980 Ti except in a few titles.

Fantastic work HH, as usual. One question though: how did you test DOOM ? Is there a demo file we can download somewhere or is this taken from a gameplay session or ... ?

Nice review HH. Beast of a card but really expensive. 800€ is a big deal, not everyone can afford one of these. I dont see 1070 being less than 450€ and thats bad for us.

I would argue the media hype is the problem. This card performs very much like I expected it, I owe a lot of people "I told you so"s 😛

OH YES LET'S START INFLATING PRICES 699, BECAME 799 JUST NOW Price will be at 599 once initial madness blows over

it seems strange, the 1080 oc only nets a 10% increase in fps in hilberts tests. I'm sure the 1500/7800 oc on 980ti had a bigger impact... yeah they new cards might not scale so well...
Yes, memory limits, power limits, temp limits, immature drivers etc This is really an AMAZING upgrade for 980/970 owners, just not TitanX/Ti owners

It appears 1070 will have 1920 cores, so 5 SMs disabled http://video[removeme]cardz.com/60127/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-has-1920-cuda-cores
yes here too http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-specifications-surface.html

No measured in-game .. there's no timedemo available that I know of. I got the key this morning. it was a bit of a quicky. If I find more time I'll prolly do a graphics perf review on the title as it';s definitely better then I expected it to be.

Thanks for this great review HH! Had a minor problems while opening few review pages but guess it was because G3D was clogged with readers all over the world, nice 🙂 All I can say after reading this review is that now I'm completely sure about what's going to happen on used card market: in weeks/months that comes it's going to be flooded with cheap used 970 and 980 cards which is great for those who can't afford to stretch their wallets for 600$/€+ to buy latest technology with all bells and whistles that comes with it. Hell even lots of enthusiast 980Ti owners will be tempted to go for 1080 mostly because of OC potential: that 2GHz+ OC on reference card is just sick!!! Guess AIBs with custom PCBs/cooling will push this monster behing 2.2GHz marker easily. Personally I'm not much interested in 1080 purchase atm, mostly because it's a bit much for my wallet right now before summer vacation. Second reason is because I don't game atm so my highy OCed 970 is just wasting its time collecting dust, it didn't tasted any game for months, lol I'm not in a hurry, gonna wait for 1070 reviews when it comes out and its OC potential, there will be enough custom 1080 cards by then, first Polaris cards should come out also by that time and then I'm going to decide if I'm going to choose Pascal or Polaris path for gaming rigs of my kids, my gaming needs are not that much important anyway, unlike their. About the price tag.... On the last page of the review suggested Founders Edition price for Serbia is going to be RSD 96.900 which is around 790€ which is (sadly) two average montly paychecks here, but... But I can assure you it's going to be even more than this, guess somewhere between 100.00 RSD i 120.000 RSD "thanks" to domestic importers-robbers :bang: For those here who couldn't wait for prices to go down this will be one more reason to go "1080 shopping" to Hungary where everything IT related is at least 20% cheaper compared to prices here. So..... I'm going to wait a bit before upgrade, AMD hurry up ffs with those Polaris cards 🙂

Most likely they are running the fan at 100% thats why lol most of these are running about 60%, 100 is too loud for me heck 60% might be annoying. I am kinda a little disappointed to it's decent but vs price to performance idk. Noticed there is still alot of lacking info on the 1070 which makes me wonder. Not sure what to do in a few rare cases it maybe 2x as fast as my R9 290 but in most cases it's under so i am kinda disappointed really along with the extreme price tag on it.

Of course you would say that.
It is not disappointment to me for being nVidia card. But considering How long there is Fury X and GTX 980 Ti and expected improvements in architecture which should have improve performance per clock + new manufacturing process... I simply think that price is too high for step-up it gives once time is put into equation. 620 GBP/790 Euro. There are sites like Arsetechnica stating: "Nvidia GTX 1080 review: Faster, cheaper, quieter than Titan X". If GTX 1080 is replacement for GTX 980, then it should have appropriate price regardless of performance. But GTX 980 came at 430 GBP. What is this move to bump price range for? I have seen statistics on how many cards are sold in each price range. There is no reason to price it that high unless there are very few made. Or plan to actually decrease price soon enough. Anyway, I want to know how Polaris will affect performance per $. Because 1080 is not that attractive. And I do not like some of those techniques nVidia introduced. Even that Viewport correction for multiple screens. Because that actually increases horizontal field of view.

Nice review Hilbert! Card is a beast! END OF! It destroys the 980! 1440p just got owned! Power consumption looks awesome too. Two of these for 4K would be fantastic! Not going to mention overclocking as it doesn't look quite ready, so hopefully we'll see more soon, but seeing 2GHz in HH reviews still good! Haters always going to hate Cowie when you getting one and putting it under dice!!!

almost two years ago got 970 for 335 dollars the 1080 is double the frames and double the cost so when it comes to frames per dollar there is no progress this should be a 499 card like all previous XX80 guess that what the absence of competition gets us
