lol even the 1080ti is dying trying to run it.

So they are releasing these drivers to show that all other cards (besides RTX series) suck in Ray Tracing? lol If only I could see more difference with RTX On than with (for example) PhysX On but not with 90% performance loss... 😉 I know I know in NVidia demos Ray Tracing will be more visible and detailed 😛

I installed the drive but cant see an option to enable RTX on Metro Exodus - why?

Probably because games will have to support it too for other GPUs, so patches will be needed if game developers will be nice enough 😉 Also latest Windows 10 (1809+) will be needed for sure.

People with a 1660 or Pascal cards shouldn't expect expect to run raytracing like an RTX card but they could have an extra option to play with. Like messing with settings at 1080p or game studios playing with lower level raytracing techniques to add some extra features here and there for all cards. It opens up a world of options but its not a miracle solution. Even for a 2080ti it's an added option. For folks that bought the 2080ti's they were fully aware it was an option/feature but the compute for regular gaming was also higher than any 10xx series card. The price was the only real hurdle.

The desperation is sad to watch. Hopefully AMD forces them to change course in a few months.

What desperation ? They just want to show that the RTX cards are way more powerful in RT so they can sell more.

That's part of it but there are also a bunch of developers asking them to enable it on pascal so they can prototype without having to buy all new cards.

nice looking forward to enable it @ 300x200 resolution 😀

I think it´s better than nothing. It´s just more features for the current cards owners. As for the performance, if even the new cards with dedicated HW struggle, we can´t expect miracles from older cards.

Funny they can spend millions developing games but cant find $350 for a rtx 2060.

There's lots of indie developers and enthusiasts working in Unreal/Unity engines. I wrote that based on my experiences reading through the Unreal Engine forums - there were lots of people asking Epic for it even though it was basically out of Epic's hands. It was especially prevalent in the archviz space where having a high framerate is irrelevant - it just allows for fast prototyping of a high quality render on a larger range of hardware.

I think this move was made with total intention! Now that people are going to see the shitty work the GTX cards do with Ray Tracing, they start to think the RTX cards are really good after all ...

Seriously, what's the point even at this framerates? They only made themselves look stupid, because it's not RTX exclusive anymore.

Now all we need is someone to do something similar to the old Physx cards and release a DX-R accelerator card at an affordable price, if they did that would probably be the nail in the coffin for RTX.

the tech is not close to be ready for us

Do you think a level designer, a lighting artist or a character designer need 60fps to design their assets and test them to ensure the lighting/mood/environment is correct? No. Do you think someone creating an archviz render for a house/building that he/she can show static/prerendered images/videos to clients needs 60 fps? No. Do you think you acceleration via OptiX's DX-R integration is useful for offline rendering for people working on Pascal? Probably pretty useful. I get that most people here are gamers and want 144hz 4k 500fps but outside of the gaming world exists a bunch of people that use graphics cards for other reasons. It's a nice added bonus for us Pascal users to check out the tech but a large part of this decision is supporting those other use cases.

They have that, it's called another video card.

Interesting part is GTX 1660 Ti vs GTX 1080. With DXR disabled/games which have no DXR, 1080 is up to 50% faster. But with DXR options ON they are pretty equal. Brings few questions about implementation. Maybe GTX 1660 Ti uses its 11TFLOPs of FP16 while GTX 1080 has to use its 9TFLOPs of FP32 as it has low FP16.

Oh shit my bad I didn't realise the 20 series are affordable now, oh snap! they're not, nevermind.
