Don't worry, we won't see the games with 11.1DX soon, so that's not really a problem. Windows 9 will be released until then. ;D

now i see why they won't release SP2! http://www.neowin.net/news/no-directx-111-for-windows-7-planned
As much as i would like 11.1 I dont give a damn seen 99% of all games use DX9 and anything past DX9 bascily 10~11 are barely used and are usual after thoughts, in this day in age where porting console games that use DX9 is the norm.

So I see Micro$ofts new business model is still assimilate or die. :bang: See I have this condition: it's called not caring about having the best. Anyway, I'm surprised no one is taking a crack at designing an OS for PC specifically designed for gaming.

Isn't support for 3D gaming the only thing new in DX 11.1 anyway?

Well you could buy Win 8 pro for $15 and save it for that one DX11.1 game that will come out 2 years from now. Windows 8 will be mature as well by then. Until then Windows 7 will do the trick for all the games I have and other stuff I have. What does DX11.1 do that DX11 cant do btw? Is there a comparison table somewhere?

Considering that several top game developers have bashed Windows 8 as a gaming platform I don't see any future at all in DirectX 11.1 if it remains Win 8 exclusive.

wow what an ugly way of marketing by forcing users into - you buy what you see...

If DirectX 10.1 support is anything to go by, then only two or three games at most will ever support DirectX 11.1 and then they'll still run on the standard DirectX 11.0 API which is compatible with Windows Vista and 7 anyway. In other words, you won't be missing out on anything by not having Windows 8 installed, no matter how much Microsoft try to big up DirectX 11.1 as a Windows 8 'exclusive'. And isn't interest in 3D on the wane anyway?

Most DX11 games should run in DX10.1 on DX10.1 hw though, so it wasn't totally irrelevant If 3D really is the only significant thing DX11.1 has over DX11 though, yeah, no big deal

DX11 looks great, so I guess despite upgrading to Windows 8, I wouldn't feel that bad if native stereoscopic 3D is the only significant change.

It's a bit more than that but I'm not too in-depth on these more technical functions of DirectX and the 3D support is one of the few major features. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/desktop/hh404562%28v=vs.85%29.aspx The main thing would be if they use it on the X-Box 3 which is rumored to arrive soon (Though that can change of course, might still be a year or so before it's launched.) but I suspect it will be a fairly slow process before DirectX 9 is replaced entirely and if 11.1 is Windows 8 exclusive and there's no other good Windows OS or upgrade for older versions then due to low adaption most studios would likely just focus on 11.0 unless it works the same as 10.1 where it's enabled if supported (Thus they can implement 11.1 functionality without breaking backwards compatibility.) but otherwise it's ignored/disabled and it reverts to default DirectX 11.

Adding more fuel to fire, XP was good vista was bad then 7 was good now 8 is bad, take a guess about 9, that's right. We skip every other release as tradition will tell.

data/avatar/default/avatar14.webp

Platform update that involves directX? sounds like MS has something planned for Win7....
