Interesting roadmap, so Zen2 is going to be around next year. Although I'm not sure 2020 would be Zen3, by the logic we see here it would be Zen2+ in 2020 though (tick-tock).

So zen+ in H2 2018. I was expecting it in the next month or two but no biggie

Zen 2 is h2 of this year according to the slide

Finally progress in this sector.

Oh you are right, I misread. I just was going by the top slide where it says Matisse (Zen2) in 2020. Does that mean they are working not only on a refresh but on a significantly improved architecture for Matisse in 2019? Zen2+ 2020, Zen3 in 2021?

"Inflection" -> "Optimization" -> "Inflection" -> "Optimization" .... Guys, I found who stole Intel's "tick tock" thingie! 😀

Not quite, they're still using the same socket...! Blasphemy! 😱 :D

Which slide???????? The article specifically says Zen2 in 2019. 3 times. Twice in the article, and once per slide/ 4 times if you count lack of Zen2 in the second slide.

Second slide lists 2600/2600X/2700/2700X as "Zen2 CPU". I'm not that firm with AMD's lineup, so I thought there was something to it...

hehe probably, sitting on my work laptop, tired, small eyes here 😀 It's "Gen2 CPU", I guess that doesn't mean Zen2 after all, so I was actually right with my first post. Don't confuse me before my 2nd coffee in the morning...

Joining the Coffee club, but no sugar here. 😉

Indeed, black as the night. I'm curious to see what Zen2 can do, might leave team blue next year. But honestly, Intel looks less and less appealing if they get matched by AMD's IPC improvements. My CPU is still at stock and it's more than enough to play at 1440p, and I don't plan to jump the 4K waggon before it's sensible to do so (aka single GPU for me).

Yeah, it clearly shows that Zen 2 is next year, this year we only get Zen + in the second half, which is a bit later than what I thought it would be. But no biggie. Maybe by the Christmas at least the prices of RAM will come down and there will be some gfx available for the new build.

Makes you wonder if they're dropping all the highest binned 2800X chips in that Threadripper refresh this time around, as 1700/X must have been a bit more popular than 1800X...and the binning clocks even closer together than last year...

I have my doubts here.... New 400 chipset mobos were listed from several sources for April release and we have informations directly from ASUS people that they are bussy intensively testing bioses for them (C7H...) already in 2017 and now they should be moved late by 2 additional quaters? Either there were some bigger issues or I am not sure what to think right now.

They can probably cut out the the 1700x version and just go with 2700(1700) and 2700x(1800x?) version, but the naming seems to suggest a 2800x maybe still be offered.

Their time lime suggest that 2800/x won't be made and good riddance. Let's be real, the 1800 and 1800x were a mere cash grab. Who's going to fall for that again? Offering binned version of the same chip, and naming them 4 different models, is shameful. I understand why the did the 1800/1800x, because $$$$, but it's like a once in a lifetime ultimate. It's completely lost on me that people were willing to pay more for an zen X variant all the while getting far less (no fan) only to have the non zen X variant OC to the same levels. water cooling aside, the point of no Fan is to be able to put on a better one to obtain more stability and lower temps to support OCing. For the most part, neither situation applied to Zen since you could reach max OC on the stock cooler. At lest now the line makes sense. all the models come with coolers, X and no X alike, so it looks to me that AMD wised up and is now offering a proper product line instead of a marketing scam.

They will not do it since there are a good amount of people who are not into OCing the proccesor, so they just aim to that market (who wants a CPU) with higher clock out of the box. Edit: wording cause me not hablo englando.... ARRGH!
