Both ice lake 10nm and comet lake 14nm are marketed as 10gen, can you believe that? Thats on purpose just to confuse people. What a mess.

When too many +++ get embarrassing for them they go to generations. To be honest even all the lakes are getting rather confusing.

You can tell the marketing bunch are papering over the lack of stuff from the engineering bunch curently.
Intel on 7nm will be fine, just 2 years late.
And I am neither AMD or Intel orientated, I am non binary 😀

They are not moving fully to 10nm, reason why we will see 10nm in some and 14nm in others, atm their process in 10nm is not netting fast enough clocks, so we will see more 14nm on higher end cpu on laptops, just as we will see on desktops. My guess is until we see 10nm+ it wont enter high end desktops or mobile, and the offerings will remain on 14nm++

This makes sense from a business perspective. Intel wants to create the illusion that they are still hitting high clocks on their latest-gen products - potential customers would want to buy the latest-gen but might be put off by the low clocks on Ice Lake. Comet Lake solves this problem, by selling what is essentially a last-gen product as 10th gen.
