Yes, the buyers get pi$$ed if they believe that 3k gaming will succeed with these. Nice for desktop GFX but probably until a 870/880M Sli performance level will be enough for good 3k playing experience. High end mobile Maxwell perhaps?

You're not supposed to be playing at this resolution. I've been testing a laptop with 15.6" 2880x1620 resolution and it's mind blowing. My next laptop *needs* 3k/4k res. That's why: 1. Screen fonts look great. 2. Yeah, they look like a bloody print! 3. Reading is faster and less fatiguing for the eyes. 4. You can add 1440x810 resolution, which give you nice 2x zoom in games without any blur whatsoever. 5. In BF4 (and probably other new games to come) you can use native resolution with 50% scaling, giving you beautiful sharp interface and the game action in reduced (but still acceptable) resolution without any blur. After using that laptop (T540p) for a while, I'll be waiting with my gaming rig upgrade till fast 4k screens are accessible.

I totally agree on the five provided points but if I may ask, can you please elaborate on the above statement? Hard facts would also be preferred, like who said you shouldn't or where is that being written/said or stated. I know its common sense that its performance is not enough for 1600p gaming but they are selling it as a "Gaming" laptop at a 2K price with a 1600p screen and I didn't see anywhere mentioning "It has a WQHD screen but you can't game at that resolution". :P

I can only retype more or less what you said. After reading my post again, it appears that the words I used weren't the best, effectively meaning something else than I wanted to express. So I apologize for spreading confusion and potential offending. They advertise "3k gaming laptop", which may sound like the best deal in the world ever for people who don't know how the hardware inside is capable of. But the common sense says for you and me that it's "only" a great laptop with super-sharp 3k screen, which can be used for comfortable gaming if you crank down the resolution / details / play not demanding games / use BF4 scaling. I tried it with T540p. Diablo III runs really bad @ 2880x1620 (but it's so pretty 🙂), but if you add a custom resolution of 1440x810 and set the game to use it, it looks ok on 15" screen, while not-games look beautiful. Perhaps GS60/70 can run Diablo III and games with such requirements at 3k resolution. It would be a great feature to have, but I wouldn't count on it. I'd rather have constant vsynced 60fps than frame rate jitter. The advertising is a bit misleading in this case, as well as with other such laptops like the new Razer Blade. Nonetheless, knowing the limitations, I'd still opt for such screen. Be it GS60 / XPS 15 / Blade, if my W520 dies, I pretty much know what I'm looking for.

Well said. :thumbup: I get your point totally. I too wouldn't mind to own such a gaming laptop with that reso even if I only could game at 1080p. 😉

I got the MSI GT60 (1080p screen) and Skyrim has delayed sounds. So even paying a hefty sum for a gaming laptop still doesnt give a great performance in some cases. I only have it for hotel gaming sessions.
