When drivers do mature, the difference is usually trivial.
It can make a huge difference. Pascal it made some difference on the Nvidia side, now AMD side driver maturing for Vega did wonders for it.

Thanks man I guess I really deserve such comments !
It's not like you could in any way affect the prices with your reviews, you just have to review the products pretending these outrageous sums of money are the new par for the course in today's world, just like we all do. Otherwise you would need to end your hardware review web site and we would need to end our PC hobby. Unfortunately with this kind of price development I might as well be reading a Guru3D review of a new Porsche; the article is an interesting read, but the product only a dream.

Something to remember though, this is done first release. Drivers and optimizations have not matured yet for Turing.
nah it is bottlenecked by vram bandwidth too much, just like original 1070 was compared to 980ti, slightly OC 980ti pulled ahead by higher resolutions. Same thing now vs 1080 and 1080ti (saw the same here).

Im going to do just that and end my pc hobby. I said it before, If they kept the prices up after the mining craze and everyone else screwing us over as they are with ram too then i was going to stop. I have other hobby's i can spend my money on. I'll keep my current pc to do things i need but thats all. I wont be building a new one.

Recommending mainstream videocard without good result in performance per dollar chart is lame.

Well to be fair, behind the acid comment of that user, it is true that MRSP is not really representative anymore. It wound't hurt to simply take an average from ebay, new and used. The point would be just to give some perspective on the current market at the time of the review, nothing more nothing less. An update of such value every 2 months would keep the review relevant although it could add up to a lot of work for Hilbert.

If no one bought a card above MSRP. guess what would happen. Supply and demand. We need to learn to hold out for better pricing.

There’s definitely one thing I’m learning from all the RTX card reviews, we need more games built on Vulkan, look at that RTX 2070 go in Wolfenstein, some big improvements there.
The only thing I've learned is that AMD needs to start competing at the high end vs NVIDIA for gaming, prices are getting out of hand. 10 series I was like "eh... expensive... but OK". 20 series: "ROFL NVIDIA, nope, f* off with that pricing!!".
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/225/225084.jpg
I like the review and i like the card. It's just the price for a x70 card should be in reach for those of us whom can't spend £600 on the high end. This card should be £400 tops. I blame AMD because if they had some competition for this 20XX series then nVidia couldn't get away with the price gouging they are involved in. When i say i Blame AMD what i'm really saying is i blame a lack of competition in the GPU market. If AMD had the same recent success as they did with Zen in the GPU market then i'm pretty sure nvidia couldn't charge as much as they are.
data/avatar/default/avatar02.webp
Yeah... damn AMD. Seriously, AMD does not need to offer a high end GPU. They might, but the CPU end is their future and the consoles for now. Enough of us consumers are willing to pay what the merchants want to charge. Same with $60 games. We are the ones to blame most.

Blame AMD? They are not here to keep nVidia's prices in check. If you do not like nVidia's prices, go and start some movement to mark nVidia as having monopoly in GPU sector. Get artificial price limits. But do not blame AMD. If anything, go and thank AMD that they paid horrid money for ATi and continued to hold GPU torch up high for so many years even while big portion of market took them for what you do... As something that will make their next nVidia's GPU purchase cheaper.

Well don't give up on PC gaming & building just yet, wait to see what AMD and NVidia do in future generations, doesn't matter if you skip a generation (or two); don't throw away money for 30% gains though (this generation)!

For $629.00 at Fry's , got me a 1080ti Gigabyte OC ,basically 2080 experience at high-in 2070 cost, still a lot of money.

i wont even wait for a "Ti" version..... because nvidia at that time.... would already make a REFRESH version of the 2000 series... 🙄

warlord:

As expected. 2070 Cheaper and faster than Vega RX.
Vega 64 costs as much as or more than a GTX 1080 Ti where I live and are mostly out of stock. I just think it's sad that AMD knowingly chose to prioritize Navi for consoles and ruin their reputation with Vega. However there's hope for them now that Raja Koduri was kicked from the company... I'm sure things will turn out for the better sooner or later, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm done waiting for their delayed hype being Navi. Hopefully AMD will freak out in reaction to the RTX 2000 series having been released and "leak" some new tasty info.

Very true, AMD don’t seem that interested in competing unfortunately, which gives Nvidia full control over prices 🙁

A few things: 1. The prices where you live do not represent the prices everywhere else. I'm not saying that to invalidate your point (after all, I find warlord to be a bit of a troll), but, your point doesn't carry much weight against his, either. 2. If AMD didn't appease Sony, they could have lost them as a customer forever. Sony went to Nvidia before so I'm sure they would consider doing it again. AMD didn't have the resources to devote to both products. 3. AMD prioritized Sony despite what Raja wanted. He himself was bothered by the fact that his team was taken from him for the sake of the PS5. So, you got that a bit backwards. 4. I don't see why AMD would freak out now, considering the 2080 and 2080Ti have already been released, and who knows if there might be a 2070Ti or cheaper Titan V. I haven't heard what exactly they intended Navi to compete against, but considering the rebrands, it doesn't seem like they have any intention on competing with Nvidia's high-end GPUs for the time being.

So after reading this lovely review about the 2070 i can say that´s a very nice card with the wrong price! a 70 series card shouldn´t cost more than 400€ at best, instead the 2070 is going to be over 500€!!! To think i´ve bought a 970 for 380€, a 1070 for 430€ and now the 2070 is going to cost more than 500€!!! The next 70 card is probably going to go over the 600€ mark... It´s just too much for this type of card. I can´t see the 2070 selling well with this crazy prices... Great review as always!

The drivers are going to be important for the new features, like the DLSS and ray tracing, for pure performance i agree that the differences are probably going to be minimal.

If I can find one at $499 U.S. or less I can see myself buying the 2070. That price is a lot more reasonable. Plus we have "features" to look forward to latter. Not holding my breath on those features tho. I hear the 2070 is mining beast too.
