No, but given that it bring even less that the "580" i was expecting the community to be outraged, but it seems only amd gets that treatment.. not by you HH btw
I know, but hey--they *all* rebadge--and usually nVidia gets just as much flak when they do it...;) Is the 1060 the card from nVidia that won't do SLI? Can't recall.

Please explain how 1060 to 1060+ is a re-badge.

true> SLI is not available with the 1060 and yes both sides rebadge/brand.

I think waltc3's referring to past cards not the 1060. I personally hate when both companies do it. I don't mind them making upgrades and using letters or whatever to differentiate them. But when you're effectively selling the same product as what has been widely accepted as a new generation, you're purposely misleading customers. They should have called it 485/475 or 480+/470+ or something.

agree^ and I like the way nvidia went 1060 to 1060+ instead of diff#... and the fact that nvidia went from maxwell to pascal so fast gives them a huge lead...nvidia ain't no joke.

They should have been 475 and 485. That's what the xx5 was there for according to AMD's own slides. But no shareholders wanted a new generation of cards whether they were truly upgrades or not.

I expected much more out of the memory but this card really isn't bandwidth starved.

while nvidia has held the crown for a long time lets not forget the past (Tesla) GTX8800/9800/GTX 280....I was so proud of my $180 hd4890 I could swear nvidia would never catch up.../ I was wrong. Nuff Said about the past.....I just wan't a 980ti...:D

A 1060 6GB non reference costs $210-220 whereas the cheapest 480/580 is $235. Differences are 2GB less vram(doesn't matter for a 1080P card), twice the performance per watt, less heat and noise. Considering on average 1060 is faster than 480, explain exactly how it's overpriced? If it's overpriced than 480s are blatant ripoffs. To answer your question, they are trade offs. 480 does better in some games, 1060 in others.
I don't follow your pricing logic...on Newegg the 1060 6GB and 480/580 8GB are all about $230+ with the sole exception of the Zotac Mini. The 3GB 1060 and 4GB 480 are both at $180+ Seems like they are equally priced. And if gaming at 1080p, then I don't see a need for the 8GB over 4GB on 480/580. 3GB vs 6GB is in a similar boat at 1080p though I feel there's significantly less breathing room with that 1GB less on the 1060. But I do agree with your assessment on their respective performance

Um...what? I'm confused by your post, since you included the GTX 8800, which was one of the more important beast cards there were. And honestly, i don't recall nvidia ever "needing to catch up" and the Radeon HD 4890 release price was $250, so you must have gotten it a bit after it was released? And the 4890 at $250 would have gone up against the GTX 275, of which those cards traded blows back and forth with eachother, sometimes by a lot, sometimes by very little http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-275-review-test.html So i'm very confused by your statement, both of them.

Safe to flash bios onto a regular 1060 Gaming X? Hi, Was wondering if its safe to flash the firmware from a 1060 X+ onto a regular X rated 1060? Also you guys know what are the kind of ram modules the X+ uses? Samsung? Anyone know the model number of the ram modules as well? Thanks.

It's actually GTX 1060 Gaming X Plus, not GTX 1060 Plus, so it's actually an MSI thing. MSI also sells an RX 580 Gaming X Plus, which has a bigger heatsink similar to the GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X. https://www.msi.com/asset/resize/image/global/product/product_0_20170412113936_58eda178393ae.png62405b38c58fe0f07fcef2367d8a9ba1/600.png

I bought several of the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X+ 6G graphics cards. I tried Ethereum mining. They did 21.2 on Max OC settings. Just to give you an idea of what I can do, an older GTX 1060 6GB card from another manufacturer I can sustain 25.4 MH/s, so yeah, I know what I'm doing. IF the ZEC EWBF miner didnt crash maybe id mine ZEC because at least in that miner i can get halfway decent performance. Somebody on the Nvidia developer forums was talking about how the latency parameters or the quad data rate operations are wrong in bios, but the CUDA DDR operations work fine. I don't know what's going on, but it seems like this is a new memory controller that was built for the GDDR5X, but they used it with the old GDDR5, resulting in a performance loss of over 15% on most CUDA QDR memory operations... I could be completely wrong, but apparently this is the same problem plaguing the GTX 1080 cards for performance.

they suck In other words, I own a bunch of these, I regret my purchase, they're getting returned, so unless you want to gamble with your hard earned money, wait for the jerks to fix the memory bugs that make it worse that older models.

This is a gaming graphics card and a nice one at that/ you talking about mining with it?....sorry for your loss but you should learn more about mining before you plop down money on anything.

You know he could probably just flash the 8Gb/s vBIOS in those cards and be good. His issue is likely the loosened timings of the 9Gb/s memory. But I ain't gonna tell him how to do it.

Yea....1060 is a sweet little card/ still hard to believe the performance it gives vs the power it consumes...
