I'm a bit confused here. Is this beast in between a 780 and a titan or is it faster than the later?

much faster than titan but it does not support quad sli

Nvidia has never to my knowledge officially supported 4-way SLI.

I wonder how much this is going to cost? If it's the same price as I paid for my GTX 780 (£550) now that my card has been discounted but also faster, less power hungry, quieter and cooler running (I'd guess it'll max out at 80 C) then it would be reasonably good value. I say reasonable because NVIDIA cards are like expensive luxury items and rarely bargains. However, the R9 290/290X both have 4 GB of VRAM whereas the GTX 780 Ti has 3 GB which may become a factor in 4K gaming.

by the time 4k monitors are attainable in terms of price this generation of cards is going to cost <$200

Most people are forgetting on key difference between this and Titan, Titan have 6GB of Memory, that can make the difference in 4k resolution for some heavy textured games, don't know if this happen already but in future some AAA game will max the 3GB memory and give the Titan an advantage.

Except a single Titan doesn't really have the grunt that the GTX 780 Ti has (seeing as it has fewer shader cores or whatever they're called) so it would have to run 4K games at lower detail levels anyway to maintain a good framerate.

not if you put the titan in sli, the 6gb will defiantly be a advantage for multi card gaming at 4k

I wouldn't worry about that Darren, well unless you plan on buying a 4K screen within the next two years. Though it wouldn't be a good idea since those screens are very expensive and the prices are not likely to drop just yet since the average gamer still has to jump on the 1440/1600p train. My guess is that by the time you buy a 4K screen it will be the time of Maxwell or even Volta which will have 16 or 32GB VRAM and then 4K won't be an issue at all 🙂

If thats the normal retail price its a bit too rich for my taste 🙂

Nice price! I would hope for 580-600€ but I guess you can't have everything.
