If the G7s might worth for some, the G9 is just overpriced and useless. HDR1000 with edge lighting for 1700 EURO? Why would one do that when 48 inch OLED are right here for the same price and probably the same desk space? Yes, yes burn in bla bla, but I believe that these type of monitors should be priced differently for what they to have to offer.

Nice design but i will pass due to them being VA panels. Can't be on with blacks smudging and ghosting every time i turn left or right in FPS games. 😕

I thought the LG CX 48" OLED would be the holy grail of monitors. Turns out it very much isn't. I sent mine back to the store after a few days. The CX's ability to do 4k 120hz @ 8-bit 4:2:0 chroma was handy, i'll give it that. There was no ghosting at all, gameplay was super smooth but... with the screen being full glossy, it reflected far too much light glare back into my eyes. And when i closed the curtains (blackout curtains) to make the room completely dark, that turned the CX into a mirror during dark scenes. You can't really claim to have a TV that gives true blacks when its actually a mirror. Then came the bugs... The CX's eARC is completely borked. Sometimes it passes through the audio signal fine, other times it sounds like an underwater cyber dolphin squealing. This audio bug happened while hooked up to the PC and again when i hooked up my Nintendo Switch. I also noticed that sound from the built-in Netflix and Amazon Prime apps had lip sync issues when sending the audio via eARC to my Denon AVR-X1600H receiver. Then came the missing features... The CX is missing a plethora of On Demand Smart Apps (UK version) that the C9 came with as standard. No BBC iPlayer, no ITV Hub, no 4oD and no My5. You can't even download them from the LG app store because LG have failed to secure any licences with the vendors... oops. The CX is also missing an on-board DTS audio decoder which came as standard on the C9. LG cheaped out to save money. They only decode Dolby audio now. The HDMI 2.1 ports on the CX are capped at 40Gbps instead of the full 48Gbps ports that the C9 came with last year. This means the TV cannot do 4k 120hz, 12-bit 4:4:4. It taps out at 4k 120hz, 10-bit 4:4:4. This isn't so much a problem since the TV's screen panel is only 10-bit anyway but still... So yeah, sent it back to the store. Gonna wait for Mini/Micro LED instead.

VA panel is the closest to oled in black and it is much brighter, much superior pop-up in color reproduction despite being less accurate. But that slow black AND white, we shouldn't forget va panel has issues with both B&W transitions, they are really slower than the competition. Each to his own. I do not care bragging about online gaming so VA is the perfection for movies and photos. Only if text was clear like oled and IPS.

Newer VA panels, the good ones, don't have the slow transitions that are noticeable like the VA panels of old. You know most popular 4k TVs are all VA panels right?

This I don't understand. When it's completely dark in the room, as you say, the screen becomes a mirror? How is that? I get it when there is some light in the background that is reflecting into the screen, but during complete darkness in the room, that doesn't make sense. The other issues that you've spoke about I could pass over without any problem, since this TV would be more like 80% monitor for me and only 20% used as a TV.

Well, in the dark, the TV itself gives off light and reflects it at the walls and furniture so i just can't win. There's always a reflection due to the type of screen. I also have a LG SM9000 Nanocell Tv. Now that one reflects light a lot less due to it being a bit more matted. And when the curtains are shut there is no reflection at all. Different story for the OLED though... which is why i ended up sending it back. That and the audio bugs mainly.

"other times it sounds like an underwater cyber dolphin squealing" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG! THANK YOU FOR THIS LAUGH! And yes to all that you said, trying to have a higher brightness and lowering the overall power output it seems they have gone with a more reflective screen which becames a mirror, this is mostly visible when you are very near the screen. Only when OLED panels start to use the Quantum dot technology, that they will be able to eliminate one more layer and than expand the color gamut and brightness of it, so the ultimate tv could have a more matte screen coating to reduce reflections to a minimum and solve this problem. In my opinion ultrawide curved displays will be the only way to gain workspace without fatiguing your eyes. I currently have a 43" and i think it's too much BUT when used only the ultra wide area, about 3840 x 1600 it really shines for gaming, because of the wider FOV and not need to look up or down with the eyes or head. Looking left and right on curver display is much easier because you don't need to keep refocusing your eyes constantly and our horizontal FOV is much wider than the vertical one. Anyway, those monitors look pretty nice, combines well even with the PS5 color scheme, for the exclusives, but only after very good review saying that blooming is a non issue that i would go for it. Response times on new VA panels are pretty great, oh and depending on the panel and the coating used to extend the viewing angles, sometimes the image loses sharpness and tiny text becames difficult to see... the RU 7100 samsung series has this problem.

They are still releasing brand new monitors in 2020 with 420 cd/㎡ and calling them HDR. Good joke but I aint laughing (or buying).

Well then it's quite discouraging. I was really putting my hopes into this one. I remember the mirroring effects in the presentations, but I was thinking it's only due to extra light in the presentation rooms. I will still get one to try it out and if it's as bad as you say, It'll be returned. I have to wait until autumn in my country for this 48 inch to be available unfortunately.

I have the Samsung CRG9 and it VA and it has no issues gaming even at it max 120hz, so maybe VAs from 20 years ago. I think some of you base your comment on old knowledge. I went from a 34" ISP monitor to the CRG9 and never looked back I use it right next to the CRG9. I have also pre-ordered 2 of the G9's a few days ago when they became avail. I also dont think the G9 will have reflection issues sure cant compare the CES lighting to in home lighting and camera angles.

I was basing it on the recent review of the Asus PG43UQ actually.

OLED and VA panels are good only with light sources off, curtains closed, etc. Unfortunately IPS and TN panels suffer less from mirroring, glaring effects and such due to standard anti-glare coating.

Never had any glaring effects on my Samsung VA monitor, or on my older IPS LG monitors. What you say might be true only for TV's.

Same here and I have my monitor maybe 6 ft from a window. My TV on the other hand which is also a Samsung 4k its a little further away from a window and yes I always pull down the blind.

I put a G9 on preorder last night. More than I wanted to pay but with that refresh and HDR, I'm on it.

I want to get the 32 inch to make the curvature worth it; however I don't know if 1440p would look good on it. I'm right now on a 27inch at 1440p. I have used a 27inch at 1080p before and it looked ugly af - I don't want a repeat of that.

I had there 32 inch curved thats out now and like it alot. I just sent it back and got the CRG9 because I had the Acer 38 wide 3840x1600 i think it was and just couldn't go back to normal again so if the new is better than the old I think you will like it. The CRG9 is nice and bright even not using HDR and so was there 32" because I went through like 4 32" monitor and the Samsung was by far the better picture. This was after going through LG and Asus can't remember what the other one was.

It takes a lot to push that 5120x1440 res though but my 2080ti does most games I play around 100fps at that res with a Intel 10920x @ 4.8ghz all core. So hoping the next Nvidia will live up to the hype to get close to that 240 mark of the G9.
