SSD age, not usage, affects reliability. this claim ... i wonder how they test it ... its hard to believe they purchase some SSD just to store it last time i read that ssd only can retain/hold data 3-4 months for enterprise while consumer ssd can hold around 1 year now another cons of SSD... i think we still need more time before completely ditching tradiotional hdd and move to SSD completely and if that limitation of memory-chip, then it might as well will never replacing traditional hdd

"30-80 percent of SSDs develop at least one bad block and 2-7 percent develop at least one bad chip in the first four years of deployment". WTH does that even mean? Such a wide difference between 30% and 80%. Is it different brands some 30 some 80% or what.

80% of devices develop a bad block 30% of the time. lol, no idea

@slyphnier i had more hdd's die on me in the last 15y (that im upgrading/building my own rigs), vs ZERO failures on any ssd i own(ed), which is about 20. all ssd's are still in use by others (sold most of them). after the 1TB toshiba died within 5m, i got rid of all hdds (mainly storage/backup). just the transfer rates alone are worth it (to me)..

indeed transfer rate are worth but current SSD cant be used for archival purpose the things that u said ZERO failures, yes i been using intel 320 as my OS drive for like 5years? (the oldest ssd i own) and there no issue but again based google report 30~80% develop at least one bad block and as high as 7% develop bad chip so atm, even there no issue on SSDs i own, based daily usage and smart info/data i cant be sure that SSDs arent without any bad block/chip as it seems maker just hide those value from user
