Sounds like bad idea, simply because phones can be lost/stolen or you could damage the screen making phone inaccessible to anyone, which in turn locks you out of your accounts if using Microsoft authenticator app.

Just like every other form of 2FA, there are backups such as email, text message, security keys, smart cards, biometrics, or even something as simple as a pin or swipe pattern. As long as there's no locally stored credentials that would let you get to the account from elsewhere, then you are better off.

ideally the authenticator app would generate & host a private key that you can store somewhere offline, which generates authentication codes that ms services recognize as "you" and sends that key to no one it is pretty much that, except the private key is also on ms servers, and the user has no interaction with it whatsoever, if they insist on the user being a baby that cant handle their own credentials, security wont improve much, this is basically obfuscating the password, oh and it works offline so thats cool I guess

With Windows 10 I have secure boot enabled and no tpm.. this includes ftpm being disabled. Unless there is something new in 11 I have no knowledge about?

How about local accounts only? Perfectly safe. No one can steal your local account password from any online server. Ah, right, I forgot. MS has removed local account support in W11. Brilliant.

Wait a minute... there will be no local accounts on Win11? Haven't checked anything about that yet, earlier my guess was it'll be the same as with Win10: just unplug internet while installing OS and one will have option to create local account.

my understanding is it still there but only in pro editon, if they pull local account only, it cold day in hell before i switch to win11 seeing I completely hate how windows 10 is when it attached to online account

If it's just for Home then it's not a big deal for me personally because both for home and office I'm using Pro, "can't live" without some features Pro has and don't want to hack Home version just to get those, it's just easier for me to pay a bit more for Pro and close the day, for office can"t use anything less than Pro anyway. But some people I know who are still perfectly happy with Win7 Home + local accounts they won't be happy with the fact local account is not an option for them if one day they "must" switch to Win11, guess they'll either stay on Win7 till the end of the time or just get a bit more expencive Win11 Pro.
