This seems like a bit of silly product to me. I'm thinking it doesn't require such a large heatsink anyway, and would really only serve as an additional obstruction to case airflow.

I've got the gen 4 version as a 4TB Steam drive, great hardware but the support app is shocking as its part of a larger system management suite of bloatware.

Seriously? All SSD manufactorers have them, for changing settings, updating firmware etc etc. Samsung Magician is possible the most in depth, the Sabretooth one is basic though.

M480 Pro version without heatsink is no fun for sure, 100C easily under load. Thankfully I got version with heatsink although not this big 😀

Maybe update firmware once a blue moon but trim is in windows or alternative in Linux. What else you doing with it?

I don't know for sure, but I'd be expecting this M580 to be able to get buy fine on the included heatsinks in motherboards. At the very least I don't think it needs such a big heatsink as pictured in this article.
