I don't see why people think this is a step forward because its still stuck on 16/9 screen ratio. Me I say the 21/9 ratio 3440 x 1440 should be the new upcoming upgrade with half the pixel count of these 4 k displays that will require less graphics horse power to run. The Samsung S34E790C out next year or the U3415W by dell is something I would consider a monitor upgrade. The 4 or even 5k displays don't do anything for me and when people need to change the size of there icons on screen it must be saying something is wrong. 4k,5k only works for something 80" 30" is just pure pointless.

This is targeted at digital cinema movie editors who will be sitting within 2-3 feet of this thing, on a high-end VFX editing workstation, so at that viewing distance vs. size, a good eye will be able to utilize that resolution. Also 4096x2160 is a digital cinema standard for mastering movies for theater projection (it's around 1.9:1 vs. 16x9's 1.78:1). Wider aspect ratios just trim horizontal lines til you arrive at standards like 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 for those epic blockbusters. This thing isn't really designed for the consumer or for entertainment. It's a high-end display workhorse for those in the cinema editing and VFX industry.

This isn't 16:9, it would be 3840x2160 if it were.

@tigermoth Clearly you haven't seen a 4k screen. At least i cant assume anything else, since i can see the difference on any screen size that if seen so far, starting with 30monis and 50/55 in tvs. And aspect ratio has nothing to do with image quality/detail. And unless your just gonna watch Hollywood movies on it (20:9/cinemascope), having that AR on a monitor would only really make sense for content editing/production...

@fry178 Your right I haven't seen a 4k screen yet but I understand the stats and the dpi. Im using a dell 30" 2.5k display. Its needs no more dpi it has now and 4k at this screen size is pretty much pointless in my opinion. When people are having to resize on screen icons and font size something is very wrong. And this 20/9 ratio is a screen res size I would enjoy using for all kinds of reasons, Movies, games and apps.
