Intel: Don't mine me, just overclocking your servers. Everything gonna be O.K. :banana: With only quad cores, I see the possibility of getting high speed, without burning socket to the ground. This should be aimed for enthusiastic consumers.

They did that 4.4 GHz 130 W dual core a few years back on the Westmere architecture, I guess this is the modern-day equivalent.

Overclocked quad mate 🙂 not stock quad, all these 85W TDP and 65W TDP quad chips soon go 200w+ TDP once overclocked.

IBM has had 5GHz CPUs for years now. The only difference is theirs were actually intended to run at that speed. This Intel... seems like one of those "huh... turns out this just happens to work" moments - not something I personally would want something mission critical to revolve around.

Fair enough but if my calculation is correct...... For a 65W 3.7 ghz Broadwell 5775C (1.2v). To use 165W @ 5.1, it would need a vcore of ~1.6V!! Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!

LOL. Agreed more or less. Still, 5.1ghz Broadwell.... This thing would be quite the gaming chip.... I wonder what premium they charge for chips that werent stable using 10 cores but can do 5.1ghz on 4. Clearly they had yield issues and decided to try to make the best of a bad situation.

Xeons are binned..... always a lower TDP and VCore. Always. Using a 5775c as an example.... I don't think that's accurate no.

I'll believe it when I see it. But boy, if this is true, it's certainly a viable upgrade for me!
