any competition is welcomed, but this card will be a year late to the game. I hope its price will compensate for that year delay

If Intel produce a card which is optimistically as fast as a 3070 by the end of next year who will be left to buy it?

Millions of people. 200$ is where the game is , not RTX 3080 level . 1080p + 150-200$ card with performance of 2070 - is what consumers need. Only small % has money and willing to pay for 3080 level and they dont even need it. Many people here think that market is at the top of the charts ( maybe margins on high end yes) but actually it is at the bottom-middle of the charts.

You forget few points. Next year we have 5nm EUV from AMD and MCM. That means something like the 3080/3090 would cost sub $300 with a fraction of the cost to manufacture. Nvidia sticks to 2021 for Hopper, will have 7nm MCM gpus also, which again will be significant cheaper than current gen. Intel will be like delivering Haswell-E 8 core, to combat Zen 3 Threadripper.

Significantly cheaper? Wake up bro, graphics cards have been getting more and more expensive every single year. Lower production costs means higher margins, not cheaper products. 3080 was supposed to be cheaper than 2080 yet it costs $100-$200 more in stores where i live.

When I purchased a top of the top range video card it was a little over 1000 dollars, now the top of the top is a little over 3000, thanks miners.. :<

My argument is still valid , there is alot alot of people on older hardware but just new gpus became to expensive , market urgently needs fast and cheap gpus available . For global market RTX3070-3080 changes nothing because low availability and price is good for 1% of gamers ( probably less than 1% correct me). Without mass availably of cheap/fast GPUs like GTX1060 was , games cant progress - maybe now it will change because of new consoles , but low-mid range PC is in stagnation for 3 years...

AMD and Nvidia already have $150-200 cards more than capable of 1080p gaming available today, you don't need RTX 2070 performance to game at 1080p.

There was already a lot of speculation last year about Intel's discrete desktop gpu. I said then that I highly doubt we'd see it come out this year. To now say it's coming out end of next year, well, it feels like Larrabee 2. Which basically never came out.

Im not saying now , look 2 years ahead , game reequipments wont be similar to what is now ,am saying for industry progression ( better visuals). Current 150$ card wich is now GTX 1060 won't be enough. So yea , we will need RTX2070 for 150-200$ , that will change something. Also which card is "WELL" capable of 1080p (full detail 60fps) for 150$??? I can't find one.

Only a brave soul would be an early adopter of Intels first discrete GPU. We would have to see how good driver support is for an extended period (year at least) to get a sense of product worthiness or not.

IT is safe to say they need 3 generations of gpus to make good drivers , right now intel drivers are quite a disaster.

From what i've seen their igpus today are very well behind nvidia and amd. Xe wont change anything even if its sees the light of day.

What i would love to see is 1060 performance for masses - around 4 tflop ( like iGPU or APU).

There are only a few cards that sit between 150-250$ and the performance is pretty lackluster the only cards I would even consider that low end are the rx5500 and 1660 super and both pass the 200$ mark 233$ usd for the 1660 super

Since when was Intel an affordable company? I'm 100% sure they sold their NAND business because the profit margins weren't anymore up to Intel's expectations. I'm also 100% sure Intel won't be trying to get video card prices down. Quite the contrary, the prices have been going up lately, and that's most likely why Intel is now trying to enter the market. Of course there's extremely high synergy between the development of GPU based supercomputer/AI technology and gaming video cards, but they are still two different products. It's not like Intel absolutely had to enter the gaming card market to sell computation cards to supercomputers and other such corporate uses.

Eh, you actually do need more than that. For ray tracing.

Exacly , current nVidia roster is a joke you have : 1650 SUPER which is on par with 1060 GTX but has 2 gb less memmory. and costs well above 200$/euro. 1660 SUPER which is 20-30% faster than 1060GTX , but still slower than 1080 GTX... for around 300$/euro 2060 SUPER which is 5-10% faster AT BEST than 1080 GTX for around 500$/euro . You see problem there ? How much more you pay for few per cent more ? . Just go back to 1060/1070/1080 era. And it is simple to understand why 1060 is most popular GPU in the world.

Interesting. Wouldn't mind a 3rd competitor on the market. Options and features might become a thing again. It's been years since that was really a thing. Exciting times to experience! Even if it's so much slower than 15 years ago. I think it's pretty naive to think that if Intel have a 3070 comparable card that they'll sell it at 200$.

Ray tracing isn't anywhere near being a budget gaming option at moment. If you're gaming at 1080p with a $150-200 card, turn off ray tracing and put the settings to high instead of ultra and you have a perfectly adequate budget gaming setup. Once AMD and Nvidia release their next gen budget cards, you'll probably be get to the point where you can run ultra settings (but still without RT) at 1080p.
