Cables for 240 W better be thick... but... the USB-C connection stays the same. Won't the connector get hot?

Power = Voltage * Current
You only need thicker cables for more current, not for voltage.
With new/improved insulator materials you can increase voltage instead, and send more power through very thin wires.
Just remember, you may be living and walking every day just half a meter above a cable transporting millions of watts at 400000volts and you would have no idea it's there. It's just very well insulated and then buried underground.

I'd prefer my USB endpoints without building-sized substations, please.
