but they can have 2x150W from PCIe cables and 75W from PCIe slot, so 375W in total. And that's the current regulation. They can't have 400W, let alone 500W....On the other side - chiplets! Means a lot more for future Intel CPU design than for fairy tale 500W GPU.

You can probably add another PCIe cable, might require a bit more from PSU... They started to share some info on the inter chip communications last year? The idea probably was doing chip/GPU/FPGA and maybe some memory on a separate die.. But with AMD doing so well with chiplets, maybe the plans can/have changed.

If you look at the table, the 500W monster requires a 48V input. Normal PC PSUs don't even offer that. So, it's clearly meant for some server stuff, where they would have a different kind of power supply and thus can get away from the normal PCIe regulations.

Imagine pairing this with an 10900k, thats 500w gpu and 500w cpu. Damn, intel just dont care anymore...

I think vertical stacking is the only practical way to really move forward with more cores (particularly for GPUs) but I question what the impact of that will be for proper cooling. For GPUs, perhaps this isn't such a big deal, where more cores is generally better than higher frequencies.

1) Intel won't be able to sell these cpu's in any signatory to the Paris Accords. the power consumption is off the charts, as the heat will be too. AMD will end up dominating the EU, Japan, Korea, etc... 2) cooling - vertically stacked dies will have lower performance from the dies sandwiched inside, with only the outer dies getting proper cooling. and at that power/heat signature that is daunting. 3) Intel will be going about this in a typical Intel fashion - shoving it down your throat as an "improvement", which it is, but with serious caveats.

I don't think the entire chiplet is stacked with forevos - it's only certain parts of the chip like caches, io, etc. You can't compare the 500w here with say a 300w consumer GPU from Nvidia or AMD. The V100's in the DGX-2H run at 450w - their servers use 12kw of power. No one is sitting here saying Nvidia can't be used in various countries or Nvidia doesn't care about power anymore - so I have no idea why people are making these comments like this.

If this is true this "GPU" is not a desktop part. These are clearly going into high performance computing and the likes. So if they can get a ton of GPU compute into a small form factor they can have a winner even if it is a 500w part. Only time will tell.

Intel is amusing as always. They bring us new 12V only PSUs. And then deliver Graphics fed by 48V. Way to go guys. Apparently, they care little for "Cost Saving" from unified voltage on servers.

Has anyone else noticed that this chart references SDV (software development vehicle) and RVP (reference validation platform)? This chart says nothing about consumer or commercial products.....in any way, shape or form..... This is an internal slide.....
