Disappointing if true. As for 960 pro... Next week as in Monday? When are these going to be available? Looking to get a 1TB one.

Disappointing is not the right word. Total heartbreak is more appropriate. I really hope they can ramp up performance and capacity, or we risk losing another mega technology.

16 and 32 GB? What year is this? Did I wake up in the past?

Like any new technology this will likely see changes and improvements as time passes. Remember when NAND flash first hit the market?

I think we're missing the point. This isn't just a faster SSD...
data/avatar/default/avatar03.webp
We are not missing the point. At this moment in time there's no application for half-ssd-half-Ram. The idea is indeed great, and there was news just days ago about some rival technology. But in case Intel releases 16 and 32 GB drives they won't achieve anything, as as SSD it will be already slower than ordinary NAND SSD, and as RAM (as I already told) it won't have practical appliance. It's like trying to promote new CPU with only 1% of its performance. Will it convince anyone? No.

What a let down. Wasn't this stuff supposed to be 1000x faster than any ssd? Talk about horse****. 16gb and 32gb? Is this usb thumb drive time? Yay..I guess.
data/avatar/default/avatar24.webp
Are they talking about Ram OR SSD , I am lost here

And the price will be??

lol as on CPU, Intel does'nt have new ideas

So... lower speeds than other such drives, MUCH lower capacities... Yeah, good luck with that Intel.

Comparing sequential write and read speeds is useless...If the low file size(0.5-128kB)reads and writes are much more consistent with the stated sequential read and write speeds then this Intel Optane SSD would be faster in tasks like booting OS or loading a game, software.

no U.2 support for my useless motherboard

Pff, all the sheep are posting here repeating the same conclusion the article had that this is disappointing (except OneCosmic's insightful post which is accurate). It's pretty obvious those numbers are after any cache on the Optane is depleted. While it's true Intel has failed at media relations lately, this leak was without context and without thoughtful analysis by guru3d. Think about those 950 Pro speeds. They're inflated, after the DDR cache is full the speeds drop dramatically. 950 Pro out of cache can be as low as 200MB writes and this 32GB Optane lowend is apparently 500MB. With the right controller and the cache (which it will have), Optane will match and crush the 950/960 Pro drives at every level and this is the beta..

Read IOPS are very good, maybe that's where these optane drives will really shine & bring real world felt performance improvements.

They should have kept this in the lab for a little while longer instead of releasing joke products like these as the first things to hit the market.

And these size versions are aimed at what application exactly? to load Mario and Candy-crush size games? Pathetic Intel

Hope this is a typo and they meant Terabytes. 16GB is good for RAM, I have 32GB RAM and a 500GB SSD so don't see the need for the worst of both.

uff i still no understand... this is for cache, if you has more than 8GB you can disable pagefile (Windows caché) and get better performance even on hard drives. i used 2 SSD one for OS and other for caché/pagefile and i did'nt feel the diference

It does sound like a lab prototype, especially given the Massive hype we have all heard. Ok, it's IOPS sounds pretty amazing, but in turn its data throughput is abysmal for the price I imagine these are going to cost. While I am sure there may be a market for something with high IOPS performance, competitive MUCH Bigger driver which are Much Faster also have really good IOPS these days too !
