HA! Ones needs to lower that TDP/power requirement in what the competition already decimates you on... I'll take a bit lesser of a performance hit in order to alleviate a 150 watt per chip increase in power draw over the competitions. And the need to change the whole infrastructure to change teams as well would just make the decision that much easier...

Remember AM4 is EOL, while socket 1700 will support both Alderlake and Raptorlake. Plus there is also the step up to PCIe5 and DDR5. I was planning on a 5950x with additional cache, but now Intel has my attention.

If they (Intel) can supply chips they will have a leg up. We have been trying to get EPYC processors for a while and delivery times have become ridiculous. We can get GPUs easier - the A100 and A40, that is.

One needs to understand that AMD isn't going up against Intel with AM4 now. Intel is going up against AMD and it's AM4 socket. The way I see it. And I'd love to see Intel keep a socket alive for more than two iterative upgrades. Because as it sits their new offering is a joke with pci-e 5.0/4.0/3.0 riddled all over the board. Talk about a serious mash-up of leftovers!! And them aforementioned pci-e lanes at a messily 16 lanes for damn near the whole system! I do believe AM5 will (here's to hoping) do just that again with upgrades in mind. I'll upgrade when it truly makes sense in the future. That is after my acquiring of a 5000 series threadripper and Ryzen (hopefully both with V-Cache) I'm good to go for four plus years. By then I'm hoping something crazy has or would have been introduced into the compute market that makes upgrading a no brainer. Not to be confused with the days of 1/2/3/486 DX/DX2's upgrades! Those were seriously cash grabs for the times in order to fuel innovation. Well that is my preferred optimistic way of looking back on it all.... As one would not pay today what it cost just to get a 100mhz more from the cpu and 256-512KB more memory!!! Shit man. Wasn't that like a grand or so back then?!? WOWO?!?

Shame Nvidia has the lead already, would love some cheap GPU.
