Look up benchmarks - seems like that's still happening when you factor in price and wattage. They used a chipl-- sorry, "tile" design, and somehow couldn't lower the price. This is a rough start to a new era.

"The 4th Gen Xeon processor family is On Demand-capable and varies in core count, frequency, mix of accelerators, power envelope and memory throughput as is appropriate for target use cases and form factors addressing customers’ real-world requirements." This is how they intend to lower prices via disabling features on the fly. I am pretty sure I don't like it but we shall see.

not only that, but almost all features are software activated. Intel did have (and still does) way too many SKUs and they wanted to lower the cost of manufacture to compete with AMD. some ninny came up with this idea.

For what i understand, the saving grace of their tile/chiplet design is that they can mix and match different hardware parts for specific uses, they could be on something here. But AMD is going to remain the performance king for the next 2 or 3 years.

waiting to see AI accelerated stuff on both sides.

LOL They let the bean counters aka ninnys make decisions again. We all saw how that was going before probably a good time to stop. What's funny is you can charge a lower price and enable all the features and still turn good margins. Its what AMD is doing and will continue to do. I suspect this idea will be dead before 2024.
