Been waiting for this, the question is what will they charge for the 8 core cpu? will the 6 core be the norm and the 8 extreme? Anyhow I will be getting the 8 core regardless but i will hold out till around October for some decent boards and maybe a new stepping.

my bet is 1000pounds for 8 core and around 750 for 6 core. TBH i am more interested about ddr4 prices...

Thats a good price for an 8 core tbh if it is £1000.

Very surprised it's coming so early. Guess they want to make AMD look like muppets 🙂 better start saving.. (for all those AMD lovers who are gonna start arguing that AMD are not trying to compete at that level, please just keep it for yourselves.they are not trying because they simply can't.They tried many times and it was pathetic. APU my A$$ 🙂

Please refrain from this kind of insults as you do not even know what AMD can bring to market and you do not want fellow members to take bad look at you in return. Yes APUs are not good for gaming now unless you are 4k gamer where GPU is bottleneck or you believe in strong push towards Mantle. But... While there is no APU on market which would with any kind of OC beat my old poor i5@4.5GHz in standard operations, there is no questioning about drastic improvements on some fronts and that HSA capable applications like OpenOffice run considerably faster on APUs than i5/i7 CPUs. AMD made kind of futureproof FX8350 CPU as at time of its release there were no games capable to use all cores and till now My i5@4,5GHz was better in most of games. (I got it because I did not intend to keep such CPU more than 3 years anyway) And at time I'll replace it it will still be better in most of games I'll be playing at given time. But FX8350 owners have good CPU which will handle games few years after I'll be forced to replace. And APUs are similar to that in its own way (not gaming way, but productivity). If AMD can make mobile kaveri soon enough I get one for development. And I plan to get 6core i5 if that comes by. As HT is still not good enough and only real benefit is from additional L3. As for DDR4, they should provide up to 50% bonus in bandwidth, 20% decrease in power consumption and mass production price should be around 20% higher than DDR3. I would rather go for HBM which costs twice as much but delivers much higher bandwidth. This intel's step is in relatively good direction for gamers. But IPC is still main decision maker for me. In the end I need every little bit of CPU power to get 120fps@120Hz. But now imagine change in my needs if unreal engine started to support Mantle/DX12 and this powerful CPU would no longer be needed. Intel then can make 12Core+HT CPU and no dog will bark on it. In such case i would be sitting on same CPU for next 3 years or till I burn it from boredom as I'll buy another product from AMD (while under performing, much more interesting to mess with).

That has not been confirmed yet and it would be a big mistake on Intels part.

Y'know, "AMD lovers" probably wouldn't feel the need to ever say anything, all you're doing is provoking them. So, that makes you alone the source of your own problem. As a supporter of AMD, the only thing I find unappealing about this chipset is the price point, and that it doesn't explicitly say if it supports DDR4. Otherwise, I would seriously consider it for my next build, though only if I find something that actually needs it. For now my current system does everything I want/need it to without really struggling, I just wish it was more power efficient.

Ivy-E isn;t that old either. This could be interesting, though I'm curious as to why the DMI bandwidth hasn't improved anything...

Yeah... if it's that much they can forget about me supporting it with my money.

8cores won't be cheap 700-800€, 6core ~500€ min for sure.

I already mentioned a while back that I really want a 8c/16t cpu(pls dont start with the why's and stuff ppl) but at those price I don't see me changing my 3770k@4.6 24/7 clocks. At best if I get an upgrade bug I'm might grab a used 4930K and be done with it. Unless they have a good reasonably priced 6core. 😉

Me too, it was my no1 machine a real 8core 😀, but I just couldnt wait any longer.. At least I got a good OC batch and 8 threads vs 4core only before. I doubt I would get away with 4.5ghz+ on a 8core, so single core perf. should be better now at 4.7ghz hehe xD But it would be nice to see 16threads 🤓

CODENAME-E is their extreme product, its for enthusiasts, just like titan, its not their normal line up so price shouldn't matter

The "whys" are a good question, because you can already get at least 12 cores (for intel) or 16 cores (AMD) if you choose the server route. Or, go for SPARC and get 128 logical cores. I don't see how any desktop user would ever need an 8 core with HT for today's software. If you're actually getting performance issues, you just really suck at task management. If you're doing stuff like VMs, rendering, compililng, and/or encoding, and if your work is time-critical, you're using the wrong type of computer.

They may pull something nice though and price a 6-core under $400 and unlocked like they did with the 4820k (yes I know that's a quad), but I'm not holding my breath. Is it confirmed that there will be no quad core on Haswell-e? EDIT: Did a bit of checking all I see is 6 and 8 core info so it appears no quad. If that is the case a locked multi 6 core at the $330 point is a good possibility.

In EU atm 4930K sells for ~ 470€, i kinda doubt it will be lower then that, would be nice yeah to see 6core variant for current 4core price ~ 260€ 😀 Looks like only 6 & 8 core variant http://abload.de/img/1h9uto.jpg http://abload.de/thumb/2ejuzu.jpg ^ Apparently up to 55% faster 8core @ 3ghz vs 4core @ 3.7ghz, now if they make a base 3ghz then huh, kinda doubt it will Oc beyond 4.2 -4.4ghz and stay cool :frown: Also it will have the same efficient onboard iVR like mainstream Haswell and later Broadwell.. http://abload.de/thumb/3m0u19.jpg

If they do a 6 core at the current 4820k price it will have a locked multi and most likely a 3.0-3.2 frequency. BTW I'm sure I can keep it cool under water. Anyone going for the 8 core CPU's most likely have the money to go H2O.

Oh, ok. I thought Haswell-E would be designated x89 not x99, although x99 does make more sense. It'll soon be time to retire my Asus Rampage 2 Extreme (x58 northwood motherboard) and this new chipset is The One. hallelujah! Praise Intel.
