As for the i7-7700K morsel: what we basically have in Kaby Lake is Devil's Canyon+. The glaring problem with that is Devil's Canyon's i7-4790K was July 2014 and clocked at 4GHz/4.4GHz turbo. 2-2.5 years later we have Kaby Lake's i7-7700K rumored to be clocked at 4.2GHz/4.5GHz turbo. .1? Come on.... Even if you find AMD pfft... this is why that Zen needs to be better than the early rumors we are getting. We all need it to work. Take that dump truck to the spray and wash, hose her down, put some new wheels on and go baby go.

That's a decent bump. My Sandy Bridge systems are getting long in the tooth.

:flip2:Unimpressed.....Pass on this wait and see what pops up in 2018.

2018... same old, same old. The problem is that there is no "killer software" that would really use more cores for the general consumer. Very few people actually do video encoding, rendering or scientific computation which might need that horsepower offered by the many-cores. VR unfortunately is not that killer software, and I don't see anything else on the horizon (not yet anyway). However, I predict that the future will be about "AI", with computers starting to think ahead of us, not just responding to our input (and they would need all the cores they can get to process the massive amounts of data available and customize them for their user). Hint: The movie "Her" Until that happens... everyone enjoy your quad cores...

eh and my 6700k is only 2 months old, then again im sure the price gauging will be just as bad if not worse on these.

Though the desktop processors will not be releasing anytime soon that I know of.....
December 2016 Yes,7700K....turbo boost 4.5GHz

I wonder how much will that get as an average OC. Can't see it getting too much.

Probably 4.7-4.8Ghz on average with golden samples hitting 5.0Ghz. Same song and dance.

7700k only oc ?

You do realize there are limitations due to design and materials right? Zen will be good because it has eight cores and each core won't absolutely suck, but it won't beat a Kaby when it comes to most gaming.. That's all most forum posters seem to care about. Zen is catch up, nothing more.

Honestly even if (read: when) this CPU is overpriced at release, I'll still likely go with a 7700K as the gains from a sandy bridge are pretty significant, not even mentioning the update to chipset features. Also nice to know that then we'll be getting the most out of our $500+ graphics cards, especially so with a 1080ti.

My opinion: If Intel is not showing a new CPU that is a lot better that the actual ones then i think they know that AMD will not bring something really powerful on the market, so ZEN i think will be a mid-range competitive CPU like AMD GPU 480 and NVIDIA 1060 !
