I really wasn't expecting anything smaller than 10nm until at least 2021 considering how well their chips are doing against AMD using two full processes larger. Now do I want them to continue this? Hell no. I want at least 10nm like yesterday.

Apple and TSMC together are building a FAB in Arizona.

Another year, another " + ".

I also see Japan requesting TSMC to build fab on their soil

I wonder if ASML will be able to manufacture enough for this many fabs as well as requests for 5nm capable fab which Apple and AMD are supposedly requesting?
Interesting. I'm guessing this is both related to TSMC restrictions on who can place orders with geopolitical situation and also Apple moving to full ARM based notebook processors. However, Apple had been reducing their order capacity with TSMC since 2018 up until this point.

Cypress Cove core will have ~15% IPC gains but probably CPU will lose some clocks because of those extra transistors, and power consumption will also go up so rumor is max 8 core CPU, with higher power consumption. Maybe 10 core but with much lower clocks
It will by hard time for Intel to compete against Zen3. Preferably it will be first time from over decade when AMD will be better in both production and gaming.

so? in the meantime AMD didnt really released a 7nm they just called it that to please the fanboys who dont know shit about electronics.... they actually released a 10nm.....
and for the people who said "its not going well for intel" - its actually going VERY well for intel on almost every possible aspect...

Intel has marketshare going for them, not much else. Almost all performance metrics in all segments are heavily in AMD's favor. The only thing Intel has is a slight advantage in gaming, and that comes at higher cost and massively higher power usage.
It dosnt matter what TSMC calls their node, and it dosnt matter what Intel calls their broken nodes, what matters is the fact that AMD is using the superior one.

Nothing we haven't get use to in the last 5 years. Intel has fallen, their luck is to be the one industry giant they are.
It would take a decade for a giant like Intel to close doors, they'll bounce back (like AMD did) but it will take years (like AMD did).

Yeah, don't be so quick to spell Intel's doom.
AMD f'ed up for more than 5 years while having only a tenth of Intel's money (or even less), and still bounced back.
What Intel will do is find a niche where they can go on and do well, and during that time put an effort into research to get them back on track.
Even if EVERYTHING goes wrong (which is not the case), it would still take more than a decade for them to "close doors".
Plus I don't want an AMD monopoly just like I didn't wanted an Intel monopoly.
No corporation is made of saints, they all exist only to make money. As long as financial system and capitalism exists, that will continue to be the main goal.

intels 7nm will be the equivalent of tmsc's 5nm so.... it won't matter that much
Kool64
until they stop adding +s to their current fab and finally go 10nm(or some other non existent fab like 9 8 7 6 5) None of it really matters.

The problem with Intel right now is that they are getting beaten bad by the price/performance value AMD CPU's offer.
Borys
If they now sell 14nm at a price of AMD 7nm could you image what price they will sell their 7nm???
Poor Intel... when they release 7nm the marketshare will be 93% AMD and 7% Intel...

I thought Jim Keller had been at Intel to help them with future products ?
Is his genius finally about to crack because Intel seems to be failing hard to move from 14nm.

I immediately sold my shares. No joke.
AMD UP
Intel DOWN
