The price doesn't really surprise me. Each port having its own controller is impressive, and it's no wonder why it needs an x16 slot and an extra boost in power. I'm not so sure what market this would be for, other than maybe a multi-head VR system.

Frequent data ingestion from multiple SSDs at a time maybe? I can see this being useful for high resolution video footage.
