HL1 can't be redone this way. HL1 is special in its own quirks. Its audio system was important part of game. Remaking levels into something more aesthetic will take its spirit away.

if i could remake my wife with a new engine, to make her younger, faster and tighter, for me it wont take her spirit away.

I don't know if this will work out. There is one great classic game to remake it in the UT4 engine that no one has to this date... I can't fathom why... and it would be so fantastic if they did. What game you may ask? Well, that would be: Deus-Ex and Deus-Ex Invisible War (Properly done)

DX1 has mod for DX8.1 bumpmapped textures and shadows. That's more than enough.

Incidentally just finished Black Mesa up to the point it can be played atm. It's a masterpiece and definition of remake.
Plus I agree, HL game needs to be remade in Source engine to stay true to original.
Nice effort regardless but I'll stick with Black Mesa.

I know a lot of people are "waiting" for HL3 (as though it will ever be released) but what I'd rather see is a single game that is a complete remaster of all of the original games from beginning to end, with 2 campaigns. One would be "the original" or cannon storyline. The other one would be a slight re-write, where they replace the most criticized moments with something better, and, where the ending is changed to neatly wrap up the story in a satisfying way, and perhaps not leave room for a sequel.

Nothing definite but I think the latest update from devs said of the total 5 Xen maps they're making 2 are done.

HL1's soul is irrelevant if Valve never finishes a sequel to wrap up the cliffhanger ending of HL2 Ep2. The whole thing is just meaningless with an unfinished story.

It's been so long I don't even remember what HL was about. I just remember it was a corridor shooter. Run down hallway, shoot something, run into room, shoot something. Rinse and repeat until win.

I don't see the fuss, the original game will still be there no matter what. I must say every now n then I get the itch to re-experience HL, I go back n down load it play through.
