You'll be alright just remember when installing to not click 'next' aimlessly, you might install Norton Antivirus without wanting to.

Installing Norton Antivirus is probably on pair with if not worse than installing some malware.

Yeah, cause it's more or less impossible to get rid of, without reinstalling your pc.

This is the sort of thing where the hackers are hurting everyone. Nobody wins when something meant to protect the users and is completely undermined. But... there has never really been a good reason to download GPU drivers from other sources anyway, so, I don't consider this to be a huge loss. Still an unnecessary loss.

But... but... aren't they saints? Trying to put their interests through outright break & enter, with theft included, soon forgery, and potentially inducing collateral damage on the ones they actually claimed to fighting for? ;)

Funny, i got a phone call 7am this morning telling me my PC drivers are hacked and that "bad actors" were in control of my whole network. For about 10 minutes i went along with my Microsoft Support Engineer from California (India). The things these guys say is pretty amazing. They seem to not even understand how crap works but they try anyway. Seriously how anyone falls for that crap is beyond me. I get it with older people but i'm no youngster myself. The way they get you to open Event Viewer and say all them red warning signs are infact hackers is so funny. lol. Plus the old Netstat -a trick with Listening connections which is also hackers btw. I usually hang up straight away but i thought i'd try see if they were doing things differently but it's the same crap they've been doing for many years. It's all about getting you to install some Remote Access Software still.

Try that with some really obscure OS running as a VM 😀 If you want to se what other tricks they got, I recommend watching some of Jim Browning's uploads on YouTube. He did actually almost fell for one himself which happened to be a coincidence that aligned with the scammers contact. So even if you are pretty much aware and on full alert there is still a chance for that a scam lands at just the right time.

Hopefully Nvidia won't continue to be negligent in the future.

I had a call this morning, the line was blank and cut off after about 20 seconds. I checked the number against those reported and it was a similar thing as yours. Now blocked 🙂

Hopefully they wont continue to be targeted. Anything can be hacked with enough skill, effort, and manpower.

Jim Browning is a bit of a special guy. How i'd love to be able to control computers and really know code. I've always wanted to really understand all the different types of code but i'm too lazy and it's hard to learn i think. Maybe nVidia should hire him. lol.
