R9 290X is faster than GTX 780 Ti!???????????? NO!!! FAKE!! Because 780 Ti is more expensive and SHOULD be faster than 290X. 😡 🙁
what the **** is wrong with u

Ok. GK110 is bad optimized because GTX 680 is only little slower than GTX 780 non-Ti. 😕 🙁 Therefore, NV will fix performance issue for GK110-serie, urgently!!
Good luck with that. GK110 is old news. Nvidia's focus is on Maxwell since it's where they're making money now.

Cool, a performance test from Guru - nice to see the 280x doing well.
Its doing very well, i'm glad. Nice review, HH.

Hey there, i've found this oddity with the shadows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0yNx3-gmos (notice how finer shadows appear at a really really close distance). I've found a workaround in the settings.xmp (couldn't find anything ingame that would affect this). T here are two values and , put them both to 1.000000 and it should at least triple the distance for the fine shadows. Now i don't have a clue what the start and end values represent, but it seems to work.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJJewldGwGc Played at 1680x1050 on low settings. Not going to play amazing though I don't think. But more than 30fps prob

Thanks for the link ... looks like I will hold my purchase until I have a new video card !

Ah well, at least with a gpu upgrade you're looking at something like 30fps min, it'll all be fine 🙂

GTAV only stresses 4 of my cores I've noticed.

Its still more dependable on core clock rather than number of cores. HT isnt helping either.

Which is a bit weird since both consoles have 6 cores available for use by games. Maybe we'll see some improvements later for more than 4 core support. Still, much better than gta 4s case.

I have to speak up for those with medium spec cards... You have included plenty of High - Ultra High end cards but very few at the lower ends and totally omitting relatively new cards such as the 750 and 750TI... They may not be powerful enough to run the game on high settings but at least they should be included for comparisons sake and not everyone spends £300+ on a GPU!
Rockstar recommends @ HD 7870 2GB, which also includes the 2GB 7850 because it overclocks ROOB to 1GHz +, stock voltage & cooling...;) (I have one.) I'd say both the 7870 and 7850 2GB were medium spec. HH probably didn't have a 7870 around, I suppose--anyway, the 78's will be close to the 79's, imo.

Yo, the non X 290 is faster in this game than the 780 Ti.

You might want to look into getting a core i5 as well
Much of the current situation will change with the advent of directx12, imo. For the first time, (D3d12-requiring) games will make much better use of multiple cores than the present status quo of D3d11 and earlier, which emphasize single-core game performance, with multiple-core cpu performance barely touched. A good current example of multiple-core gaming today, among four cores, might be expected to show 80% load on the first core, with the remaining 20% of the work being somewhat unevenly divided among the other three cores, etc. A more likely scenario, though, is 90%+ on the first core, with 10% or less divided among the other three cores. D3d12 games should far more evenly divide the workload among the available cores (at *least* four of them), which means a massive performance improvement--especially for AMD FX cpus & AMD's APUs, for instance, as they routinely do much better against Intel cpus under multiple-core conditions than single-core. The APIs are fundamentally advancing in what should really be a fairly large jump--hard to believe it's taken this long to properly support multiple-core gpus & cpus inside the APIs! Intel looks better now in gaming performance because of that single-core bottleneck in the APIs; this should change, possibly substantially, when the new API D3d12 & OpenGL (5.x?) games begin to arrive. Performance should ratchet up substantially compared to what we've been conditioned to expect until now. It'll be interesting to watch, and hopefully, great fun!...;)

If anyone has a setup similar to a 8350/290 I did some testing and found a good combo of settings to maintain a solid 60fps. all high settings across the board, 1080p, fxaa, no msaa, no advanced features except extended draw distance can be adjusted to about 40%-60%. basically so you dont get popin. the actual distance you are able to see in the world itself is far higher than the next gen consoles. and high detail streaming when flying is possible too. Online seems to be cut down in a few ways and with these settings i never dipped below 50fps. Looks like ill jump up to very high/ultra when i get a 390x! should be pretty sweet. I also expect driver improvements and patches to improve performance more as well even though the game runs pretty great now it can only get better.
