Stuff like this is why I wish such features weren't included. I use the built-in PDF viewer; it's nice, but I'd rather have it as an extension. It's no wonder why Chrome is so bloated these days. I want my browser to have all of the essentials for viewing 99% of the web pages on the internet. Too bad Firefox isn't a whole lot better about this.

I think there should be 2 versions, one that is like you describe, and 1 that is currently how its done. You should have to search for the one you describe, and have the one that is currently out as the front runner. Why? Because people on these forums, they get it, they understand extensions and addons and etc. We know why and how to look for what we want. But the general population? They like chrome....and have no idea what an extension is. If chrome would go from what it is now, to having to have to install additional features they've gotten use to by now that are included currently, they'd start looking for a different web browser that didn't have the "issues" chrome will have according to them. It really amazes me in 2019 how inept the general populous is with a computer still.

I totally agree, though, Chromium is half-way between what you described. It still comes with a lot of the unnecessary bloat, but it removes some things like data tracking, flash plugin, certain codecs, and anything that conflicts with DRM/licensing; it's meant to be fully "FLOSS". That being said, it isn't really within Chromium's intended use to ditch the unnecessary built-in features, but most people who use it know what extensions and addons are.

IMO the so called power users are the worst, they go out of their way to disable automatic updates in browsers and Windows itself, whereas the general populous stick with the default settings and get the security updates automatically

Power users wouldn't have to disable updates if MS did a better job at quality control.

Well, I'm on canary build Version 74.0.3689.0 and updated to 74.0.3729.0 75.0.3730.0. Guess I'm fine right? 😛

Thats not true, i work on computers for a living, and most general populous fall into one of these categories: They never update their devices or even know they can They disable the updates because its "running fine, i don't want to deal with the install/download times" They use their device so infrequently they never allow it to update, and the computer slows because it is constantly trying and failing to update. They purposefully dont update because updating anything "scares" them They do not "trust" updates because some update from some company on some device they claim caused an issue (99% user error)

personally id use the pale moon fork or even cyberfox before touching NSA chromeâ„¢. ignoring the security concerns, ive found so many ridiculous bugs directly impeding functionality (im talking anything from timeouts to soft locks & hard crashes)...reported all...even debugged one of them myself...guess wat, only that one got fixed lol

Audio is out of sync with this latest version of chrome with YouTube videos. Haven't checked other video platforms. But I did observe it on all(3) computers I came across since the update. It's just about 50 or 100 milliseconds ahead of the image.
