The only problem being that Google will shut it down in 2016 when the independent part of the deal expires putting some Israelis out of work.Good for the owner who gets rich not so good for the employees.

But look at the alternative from facebook. The employees would have been canned asap. With Google, they get a solid 3 years of work, and know when they'll need to look for new employment. I think it's good, since it gives them plenty of time to find a new job after the Waze thing. In this day and age, employment for 3 years is pretty good.

I wouldn't be shocked that the employees would also be given stock options; it's only around 100 of them. That, and having worked at such a successful startup you would be an almost instant grab in such a crowded market. I wouldn't be shocked if Google ended up keeping most of them on with their Google Maps team.

What? Waze only follows you when you have it on or allow it to pre-load routes (such as a when you leave work, etc).

Name me another employer (non government or education) that would sign a document promising contract of employment for 3 years. That's a good deal, and at the end of the contract you could work directly for google. Pimp.
