Guys... The thing is... It might be cool and really quiet when slapped on card like that but GTX 780 and 290(X) heat generation is at completely different level.

Had once since the 23rd of December... I say had because I have already RMA'd it due to black screen crashes under 3d load, so it seems despite better components on a non ref pcb the issue persists. 🙁 AMD need to get their act together and find out what is going on.

First i thought its just the gigabyte ones but it seems all R9 290x can have this black screen issue thingy...sad.

I preffer Asus' Direct CU II over the WForce
I'm personally very impressed with my TFIV cooler on my 780 Gaming. The 100mm fans on them are almost silent and the card never goes over 70C in my case.

They claim the cooler is rated for 450 watts, so I think it's as well suited for the 290x as anything else being offered in general retail. Give it some time and we'll see reviews of it soon enough anyways. 🤓

Yes but it can dump the same amount of heat on the right side of the card - inside the case.. I owned TF3 cooler and it acted the same. Asus made that special fan on the left side so that it pushes most of the heat outside - most, well at least by thermal images it was the coldest from all customs - on the right side.

I have the 79701ghz wf3, good card, solid temps...but very very loud under load. just waiting on the 290x asus dc2. the noise is just too annoying.

The fully enabled Hawaii GPU as seen from the die shot has 48 Compute Units, 192 Texture Mapping Units and 64 Raster Operators. The 48 Compute units amount to a total of 3072 stream processors. That’s the same number of cores once featured on AMD’s Radeon HD 6990 dual-chip graphics card and also the same number of cores which are currently available on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 690 dual-chip card. Although there’s no comparison between the cores since all cards are based on different architectures but its still a surprise that AMD can integrated such a high number of cores in their flagship chip, NVIDIA’s GK110 has a maximum 2880 Cuda core count on the high-performance GeForce GTX 780 Ti and its Tesla/Quadro variants. wccftech
Interesting if true.....

Gigabyte stop mass production of Windforce 3x 290s.
There is a problem on fan sink. The production sample is different from the sample provided by our vendor. The sink for early media samples are not optimized to meet the design requirement. We will improve it immediately and we stop the mass production today ...
