Now we can "assume" that there will be a more power hungry version possibly branded the Ti.....?? I like the low power consumption, but would like the ability to throw as much as I want to at it. I like what I've seen so far......., but am not sure that I'll be selling off the OG TITAN's just yet. Not sure, but 3rd party board makers can always add their own "Powah" to their particular setups right...?? Could not imagine having a couple of these cards with the ability to throw much more power at it right out of the box.
the single 8 pin is so impressive, thanks for the nice pictures!
I can't care less about power consumption tbh .. throw in a second 8pin .. throw in a 3rd ... bring in the watt monster and then i'll buy a "pascal" gpu!

@Hilbert, I know u can't reveal much at this moment, but could you please tell us, can it do 4k 60ghz 4:4:4 over hdmi? I heard/seen somewhere that hdmi 2.0b can't do that.

It's actually a damn good looking card. We judged too soon
i think its ugly looking in your average case you never see the awful cooler anyway , the only reason i can think people buy the stock cooler is to get the GEFORCE LED the stock led do look cool in a case and u can only get it on the stock card , but them blower coolers are too noisy and hot for my taste i have to have a near silent pc

Two words: review when šŸ˜€
data/avatar/default/avatar23.webp
for me the most important thing is did they fixed the issue with DX12 running slower than DX11? Power is important cause the more power you have the more heat you need to dissipate and thus you can't make the gpu as fast as they can now. So imagine they didn't care about power and just added 3x 8pin connectors then it will run very hot.

So when can we expect some Benchmarks on the Gtx 1080? Faster then 980 sli I will take one please. lol.

Nice one Hilbert, did they only send you 1 card? You deserve at least 2. šŸ˜€

What I'm afraid is that the reviewers get the cherry picked "Founders Edition" cards, and the actual 1080's aren't going to match those and it'll take too long for the actual 1080 reviews to come out. That is if nVidia does pick out all the high ASIC cards(or whatever they're going by) from the wafers.

I'm sure if that's the case, responsible reviewers like the ones here on Guru3d and Andandtech will adjust the clocks to stock speeds in their reviews.

How would they know that their cards are cherry picked if they, like the rest of the world, wouldn't have access to cards that have not been given to reviewers at least till 10 days after they are allowed to post their reviews due to the nda? I mean, they wouldn't know if the cards they have overclock significantly higher than the regular cards that would be sold. Although most of the reviews would dedicate 95% of the review to stock clocks, Riot83 was concerned about overclokability (if that's a word), right?

How would you know that anyway, with any review of any product? Also:
Every single instance of ā€œFounder's Editionā€ can be replaced with the word ā€œReference,ā€ using previous-gen nomenclature. There is not one difference in its market positioning. They are synonymous. NVidia has replaced its ā€œReferenceā€ name with ā€œFounder's Edition.ā€ There are not two GTX 1080 models made by nVidia. Only the ā€œFounder's Editionā€ exists; there is not a cheaper card made by nVidia than the $700 Founder's Edition, which ships first. Just to be clear: nVidia is making one official GTX 1080 and one official GTX 1070 model. The ā€œFounder's Editionā€ is not specially binned. The ā€œFounder's Editionā€ is not pre-overclocked. The ā€œFounder's Editionā€ uses the new industrial design and cooler from nVidia. Historically, this is what we would call the ā€œreference cooler.ā€ The cooler is more-or-less identical to the previous reference models. It's got vapor chamber cooling, a VRM blower fan, and a large alloy heatsink under the shroud. There is a backplate on the GTX 1080 Founder's Edition. This card is not "limited edition," despite its name that would indicate as much, and will run production through the life of the GTX 1080 product line.

I'm with you on this one. Main reason I kept the three 1.5k PSU's I'm rocking....

The site videocards is saying the "founders edition" just has an extra piece of plastic and will be available earlier than other versions. They aren't "overclocked" (if that actually means anything other than reference clocks being artificially lowered, from the clock the card can actually achieve). It's a price boost for those that want to jump to the top of the queue and get their new cards delivered quicker, it's the same card as the reference edition. It's for the dummies that want to pay 100 bills to get the card a couple of weeks sooner. When are the reviews coming? I want to go back to the good old days when reviews appeared a couple of hours after the release promo video.

hahaha nvidia fooled people with the founders edition they thought its a cherry picked overclocked monster , but its just a name change from reference to founders and people who want that geforce led in there case have gotta pay $100 extra this time , its the new rip off , maxwell it was the gtx 970 3.5gb i got ripped with that one , this time $100 extra for a stock cooler lols

Well now you know which one to buy..... Not like they just threw the choices out the window and is going to make the consumer buy just the one card. Choices are good in life. Besides....just buy a third party card with nothing "reference" on it and there is another solution.

I can confirm that the founder edition is the reference card. There's no binning or higher clocks.
