Thanks a lot for this preliminary review! Undoubtedly 1080SLI is not an option for a 1440p system but glad to see that 1080SLI is viable for 4K. Hilbert, will you also have the chance to do a 1070 SLI review sometime soon? The card is released in a few days and it would be great to know if it's an option over 1080 AIB or not.

Here are some of my SLI results: 3DMARK: http://www.overclock.net/image/id/12096706/width/600/flags/LL And some 3440*1440 benchmarks (all SLI except Tomb Raider for obvious reasons): http://www.overclock.net/image/id/12096707/width/600/flags/LL I used this SLI bridge. Not all that impressed compared to the 780 Ti's, but time will tell. Any word on when the HB SLI bridges will be available? PS: slight OC on the 780Ti's in the above graphs, stock clocks for the 1080's. All reference air cooling.

After seeing this preliminary review, I am going to do: 1. wait for 1080 Ti and buy 2 of them. 2. Buy a 4K monitor

Does it drive anyone else nuts that there are no fps comparisons to other sli/xfire setups? I saw some in the noise and power section, and realize this is more of preview type article, but I feel like the information presented is severely lacking when it isn't placed among its peers so to speak. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I missed something, or someone can convince me it isn't relevant. EDIT forgot to mention, yes I did see the line in the conclusion about waiting for better drivers. Just still doesn't make sense to me to omit them if numbers are gonna be thrown out there at all. I appreciate the article and the time spent on it, I just have to scratch my head at it though.

Wait until the drivers fully support SLI and I'm sure those comparisons will appear, not much point until then

Any word when they will release the tool to enable 3 way SLI?

Naw I get that my point is just more like, if the drivers aren't supporting pascal well, why not show some previous generations numbers with the same drivers just to highlight to what degree it affects things? Then you have a before and after so to speak for both generations rather than just omitting the previous.

Sure purchase me one and I'd be happy to do that for you 🤓
hehe how about forcing that custom resolution? I think the driver panel will let you do that

early 368.25 driver does not seem to support SLI for the majority of games
Huh? I got SLI scaling on about everything tested on 100 games. For some I forced it through custom bits, with inspector, but most I them work without a hassle. Tested on 5K mainly though. I use a 3-way led SLI bridge from Evga till the hb one arrives. But I'm not sure how much it's gone bring.

Looks pretty beastly @ 4k, rather overkill in lower resolutions of course.

Sorry but unimpressed by Dx11 benchmarks.Maybe in Dx12 and AIB's cards get better results.

Are you guys sure that 368.25 doesn't have full SLI support for certain games? The article listed The Witcher 3, among other games that doesn't have proper SLI support, although I've been playing it just fine with 2x FE 1080's and noticed a huge boost in performance when trying in SLI compared to single-gpu mode. If the current driver truly doesn't have full SLI support, then will I see a performance boost in a lot of my games? Now that I come to think of it, GTAV does have some micro-stuttering when I'm running in SLI mode.

Still some way of matching the 38,000 GPU score I can get in 3d mark with my 3 cards.
My Tis get 40k something, dont recall exact number so 1080s should easily be scoring much higher

was thinking of 2 x 1080 SLI. But maybe wait for 1070 SLI. Or even better 1 1080Tt. But I don't know if I cant wait 10 months for 1080Ti to come out. Just want to game at 4K!

I'm curious to see the future revisions with driver updates. I received a second 1080 from Amazon on Friday. It's still in the carton, as it's looking like SLI probably isn't the way to go at 3440x1440x100 (ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q) - to say nothing of waiting for the HB SLI bridges to become available. On one 1080, overclocked to the Afterburner article recommendations, The Witcher 3 runs around 60fps on Ultra with Hairworks off. I recently upgraded from 690 SLI and a surround array of 3 Dell U2412Ms. For driver/optimization issues, I usually gamed at 1920x1200x59 with the former GPUs, so I probably shouldn't fret about SLI this time, for the performance scaling detailed thus far.

a pair titan x at 1500 do 42+k gpu score in 3dfs so they have a lot to do

Would be nice if you included 980 Ti SLi scores to compare....

Hey Hilbert, Wonderful preliminary review. Can you do a test with old SLI bridges to see if it makes any difference? So a 1 finger SLI bridge vs 2-1 finger bridges vs the new bridge...
