Give it at least 6 more years. And being so cheap another 5-6. It will take more than 10 years for 4K to become mainstream. The hardware and software are not yet ready. (games not optimized for 4K yet, scaling in Windows is simply non existent, hardware is too expensive to become relevant for the average consumer.) People with 4K pc monitors are like what 1%-2% of the total market? We are still long way from 4K to be mainstream.
yep that's why there is no point in going SLI and xfire, not worth the price nor the hassle. But excellent review, i wonder if DX12 games will eliminate cpu bottlenecks and how much time till it happens, i say at least 3 years.

4k 1440p 1080p A refreshing change 🙂 Looks perfect for 144Hz 1440p. Too bad Nvidia still does not support Adaptive Sync over Display Port/HDMI

I meant to say that two 1070 seems to match 60 fps or exceed it at 4k, yes in other resolutions too, but i'm talking about 4K now. If u have 4k monitor it seems worth it, if your target fps is around 60, but we far from being 4K ready... i wonder how many years till we get card that cost 200$ and can give at least 60 fps at all games on 4K.

By then its gonna be the same scenario as now but instead of 1080p/1440p vs 4K it will be 4K vs 8K and up. Same thing all over again just with higher resolutions in play.

Never saw the point of SLI. If we had SLI to power games that looked like the Final Fantasy movie then I could understand but just to sqeeze out a few more frames? since games are so p155 poor optimized if they actually made games work on Pc instead of porting them there would be more reasons to go SLI. Specially if they added huge amounts of graphical options to warrent it... Why don't Nvidia and AMD team up to make games for PC?

Point is, CFX / SLI offer performance you can't get on a single card. So if you want to surpass a 1080's or Fury X's power, you need to go multi GPU. If you use the cards for compute power, you'll also make use of it (like folding, SETI, or rendering). If you run high refresh rate displays, you'll need the power. If you run multi display setups (surround gaming), you'll make use of it. And that doesn't change if you run a PC only title...

1080p exremely cpu bound, no sense to go sli at all! 1440p scaling is alos rather bad since cpu bound sometimes... These cards get better but we don't have the cpus for them.... edit: that frame time looks bad, it really jitters all over the place....
Only in the Devision does it have the frame pacing issue. Hilbert suspects a driver issue. This has cemented the move to a single 1080 for me this time around. I know my 2600k has no chance of feeding two 1070's.

Sheesh guys, read the full article before asking questions that have already been answered. Great review Hilbert, your benchmarks and information in your posts has always kept me on top of current tech. Thanks to you, I always know what my best buy will be for $$$. Looking forward to the RX480 reviews, and to see what my price point (which video card) I will be getting next.

Still the framtime line is very "thick" meaning that it seems to jump around +- 10 frames most of the time, every other line and most sli lines of maxwell were more flatened out..
Those are around 1ms jumps. Likely the CPU bottleneck not fault of the cards.

Great review as always , i see this SLI solution as a budget friendly 4K 60hz 60+fps alternative , that's where it makes perfect sense only in my opinion as 1080p and 1440p seems cpu bound even giving negative SLI scalng. Still SLi and CF it's a hit or miss with games 😏 but right now is the only alternative to run 4K at 60+ fps with all settings maxed out and all the eye candy lit up . Hilbert i have a request ( my first request for you here in 10 years ) , please if you can and if it is possible for you , can you include racing games on your VGA reviews please. I would like to see tittles like Need For Speed 2016 , DiRT Rally etc... on your reviews since there are a lot of us that do a lot of gaming on that genre here in Guru3D. I ( and plenty of audience ) would really really appreciate that. Specifically i'm interested in NFS 2016 SLI and CF scaling as a viable option to run that game at 4k 60+ fps. , that's my little request for you and thank you in advanced. Kind regards: Chispy

Little disappointed with the scaling at 1440p, then again I'm hoping to go 3440*1440 at some point, so should show better gains there!

+1 On that racing game inclusion suggestion. Dirt Rally seems like a good choice although not that taxing I would say(2xMSSA@1440P/1080p@Ultra gets 110+ and 150 FPS respectively using built-in bench). Edit: Just checked NFS 2016. Seems taxing enough. Better choice than Dirt Rally I would say. Vote goes to NFS 2016!

Everybody's talking about 4k all the time, but the other demanding appication, VR, is developing as well. I wonder if Hilbert is already pondering how Guru3D is going to include that in GPU reviews maybe already next year or in 2018? That might be another viable market for multi-GPU as well as it's even more unforgiving than the usual 2D display, where fps drops already annoy gamers.

Good points, although I must add that although VR is steadily developing and getting more and more approachable to the consumer, presenting it in a professional article seen/read by so many visitors is a different story I would guess. VR performance although not difficult enough to measure, its not exactly as "easy" as using a built-in game or synthetic benchmark. I'm pretty sure when VR is more mainstream it will be included in more reviews.

Rise of the Tomb raider doesn't support SLI.
Makes sense in that case then, but what about other jucier games like metro last light redux, crysis 3 etc?

someone with gtx 1070 SLI can tell me their graphics score (not total, physics, combined...) in Fire Strike v1.1?. Mine is 32k and want to compare.

Sounds about right, I fortot to make a screenshot otherwise I would have included it but remember it was like 32~33K.

I wonder what are the best 2 cards someone can go for on 1080p so that the CPU doesnt start bottlenecking ?

Best 2 cards to go for 1080p so that the CPU doesnt start bottlenecking are 1x GTX 980Ti/1070/1080 or Fury/Nano/X. :P
Or 2x GTX970/980 and AMD equivalent.
I would run one 1070 on 1080p.
