Honestly I don't think its that big of a deal, so long as the $600 AIB boards are available on or around the same day -- which it seems like they will be. I think Nvidia could have done a better job explaining the difference between them on the site and at the conference (the conference seemed rushed as hell) but it's not like it's deceptive. The cards aren't for sale yet and I'm sure that everything will be much clearer by the the 17th (NDA date).

Founders Edition = vapor chamber is money well spent if you ask me

Good, I take that 3rd party coolers will add to the 600$ price tag instead of the 700$ and I'm happy with that.

I would hope so, some of the vendors may try to take advantage of nVidia's odd naming decison. I don't know why someone would pay more for the ref. design, more power to 'em I guess.

hope the premium cooler worth the price... with the price is should close to 2x better temp than reference cooler + more silent even we can get aio-cooler cheaper for $100

So not only is the new cooler ugly it cost an arm and a leg. I hope AMD has something up their sleeves with Polaris because Nvidia is getting out of hand.

Reference coolers are far better for small form factor builds, the 'blower' type cooler pushes warm air out the case far more efficiently than coolers on the AIB cards. So there is a market for their reference design.

lol so much fail.. So now stock nv gpu is 700€ Btw wasn't vapor chamber a stock thing since Fermi 580GTX?+ well now they make it sound like its top $hit or something 🙄 😀

I too was confused when I heard "Founders Edition" - as I couldn't find what was special about it. Now we know. Seriously? $100 more for, what is (and it is, make no mistake!) a reference card. That's a 3rd Party cooler for me then in future! (Not jumping at 1080 yet, anyway, so I'm more than happy to wait for the 3rd Party offerings + whatever else awaits) Nvidia's pricing really boggles the mind sometimes.

When I read Founder Edition I thought it would be like some kick starter program where you pay the premium but you get the product earlier than official release.

For 100$ they could have added a nice 240mm all in one this is just a rediculous fail. I have a feeling they will have to drop the price when no one buys the founders crap.

I bet people do. I won't - In past launches I've been there day 1 (although I have to be more sensible with money these days!, not even sure its worth a 1080, especially if a Ti will appear at some point). I get the feeling, and knowing Nvidia who I'm becoming to dislike, that on launch day there will be no 3rd Party cards perhaps? (again), thus the launch price is actually +$100 until the point when the 3rd party designs come out (a few months later?)

Nvidia already told one of the reviewers (it was on reddit but i forget who) that partner boards at the $600 MSRP will be available at the launch date or very soon after based on the region.

Huh. That baffles the mind even more then. Surely the consumer will get the partner boards rather than the "reference edition"!

It will probably come with a tshirt like my 690 did. You know, to sweeten the deal.

This means that those who want to fit aftermarked coolers themselves (watercooling block for instance) can buy a card with a cheaper cooler. Vapor chamber cooler is most likely quite a bit more expensive than the regular heatsink + fan(s) so it makes sense to charge extra for it.

Really? Those vapor chamber coolers on GTX are just sh1t nothing more, they're noisy above 45% and cooling on them is very poor,I wouldn't touch reference cards I've went via two GTX Titan X Hope this helps Thanks Jura

This is a good news for ppl with WC loops: buy a 3rd party 1070/1080 card and put a full GPU EK block on top for a few more $$$ than buying a reference card. Now we only need to know the 3rd party (custom PCBs?) models EK blocks will support.

Well if the AIB partner cards are at the same MSRP price.. Most AIB gpus in general offers higher clocked gpu's, special coolers ( Asus DCII, etc ), sometimes modified vrm and power connectors. In general they are not forcibly less priced than the reference gpu's ( who all use vaporchambers coolers since.. well since many generations. So even if this MSRP exist, there will be plenty of luck that they add 20$ here and there for their higher clocked version.
