Any else get fed up of these regular driver releases? Yes, I know that we don't have to install them but they generally have bug fixes that I need for the games I am playing, in this case for The Talos Principle 2, but it means that all the cached shaders for games such as The Last of Us Part 1 and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection will reset (I was playing both last week) and those games have 15-20 minute shader compilations. It really is a pain in my experience and highlights one area where the consoles improve on PC as shader compilation stutter isn't even a thing on that platform. Roll on DirectX 13 where Microsoft will hopefully come up with a better solution for shaders than the current DirectX 12...

but thats because you clean install instead of installing on top, correct?

Doubtful as the NVIDIA App is still in beta and, in fact, has not received an update since its initial release last week. The NVIDIA App is all but useless for me at the moment as it doesn't detect the installed games across the 15 internal and external drives I have across 65 locations despite numerous reinstalls etc. The Scan button is even greyed out in the settings for some reason. GeForce Experience detected and showed all these games with no issue so it was somewhat surprising that this feature of the new app is broken on my system.

Nope. I always install drivers over the previous ones and rarely use DDU or the clean install option in the driver unless I have an issue. I can count those times on the fingers of one hand and still have fingers spare! Driver installs reset the shader cache by default. That is intended behaviour since the shaders are generated for a specific driver so if they didn't then they could cause issues with the game when using a newer driver. Consoles do not have this issue because they have fixed hardware so the shaders are usually supplied with the game install and updated with patches, something apparently not possible on PC. Shame.

It's not up to Microsoft to "fix" this. Game devs need to reduce shader permutations (there were some Unreal Engine tech presentations about it last year) and can still choose if it makes sense to compile shaders in background while playing or entering new areas (like D3D11 often did, but via driver black magic) and driver devs could optimize shader compiler speed (e.g. Radeon RADV Linux driver has way faster compiler than even Nvidia nowadays).

551.76: r551_71-2 Big step ahead from 551.68: r551_40-14. I'm on 551.46 and its good. Are you happy with the new driver 551.76, guys? What about perfomance?

You are a massive clown. How are you complaining about bugs being fixed?

How dare nVidia release regular drivers with bug fixes and improvements - who do they think they are?!?!?! We want the same bugs for at least a bare minimum of a couple months so we can at least get acquainted with them! We don't have time to really get to know our bugs well with this pace of driver release... Stop releasing drivers nVidia for the sake of the bugs! Why aren't we thinking about the welfare of the bugs?!?! No bug left behind I say - who is with me? As for the actual driver I tested Speedway on .61 and .76 and their comparison shows that they are functionally the same performance.

Using a cleaned version with NVcleaninstall, seems to be a good driver.

Nope, I'm good. Takes about 2 minutes to update the driver.

It's way less than that on a modern CPU and also if you're playing these games right now you don't need to install these drivers as they don't have anything for them. Just update once you've finished them.

Does this fix the weird rainbow artifacts and texture flickering in brothers a tale of two sons remake? Or is it game related?
