I wonder how much does this have to do with leadership changes than being reactionary. All they're doing is returning the Windows 7 start menu and implementing "ModernMix" into the OS.
Knowing MS, these options will be hidden and not presented as options on first start/detection of hardware.

i dont see the problem
I'm using Classic start menu, before that i used start8. One app download and you good to go 🙂 If those apps weren't available, i would stay with WIN7. Now i have 0 problems with Win 8.1 😛c1:

Can we uninstall the Metro crap? I'm never going to use any of those ****ty apps.

That's a great step forward but the giant leap would be to be able to disable the metro UI and Metro apps.

I'm still on Win 7 myself.
I honestly never tried Win 8/8.1 but if it's true 8.2 will be roughly the same as 7 it might pull me over the line.

a little too late but better late than never. it's a good sign that at last the company decided to listen, that's what's important.

There is nothing wrong with 8.1. Yes people should have the option but how many here swore that they would never touch 8/8.1 but when battlefield 4 came out everyone swapped then realised that it's actually not that bad.
Apart for the usual teething compatibility issues ive had no problems with 8/8.1.

Regarding Start Menu... I really don't get why people fail to learn to use it. Still, for me it's 7 < 8 < 8.1, so 8.2 will likely to be even better.
I also like that windowed option for "Modern UI" apps. It should be there from the beginning.
If you disable screen scaling, it should be fixed. There's also workaround for that @ MS site - WhiteLightning

Since getting windows 8, I've found myself not usin the start button at work on windows 7.
Got my taskbar setup for apps and skydive for network documents / shared documents. Anything I need to do is there, ready.
At home I got windows 8...and really don't need the traditional functions of the start bar, but like the additional functions windows 8 has in its star button which windows 7 doesn't have - unless you troll through the tree-branch system and try and find it.
