HH These are kinda old and they have some messed up DDR4 timings, **** did the scoop

Isn't this the test where the Intel CPUs are overclocked?

Just wanted to thank you for making it easy to know when it is rumor and speculations. Most sites present their rumors as normal news. There is so much Ryzen stuff right now. So it is so confusing sometimes =)

A little birdie ( one of my industry contact ) told me IPC on Ryzen will be very , very good ~broadwell close to Skylake give or take on single and multi-threaded applications he said !

Wish this cpu came out last year. Would have saved me some money.
Not really. It will cost the same or slightly more than your current.

So if he went for the 4c/8t he could probably save ~$200. Unless you mean that a 8c/16t Ryzen has the same value proposition as a 4c/8t Skylake.

Yes considering only thing we have numbers on is 8/16 and that is what the article is referring to.

I thought this article was referring to the AMD Ryzen 7 1700X there is also going to be an X1800 too which is the high end chip.

Yes and the MSRP on this particular CPU is higher that the 6700k he has. At least if the leaks are true. The R7 1700X is a 8core/16thread part.

What is giving me some hope this might be up to expectations is, believe it nor not, AMD NOT hyping this as the intel killer nearly as much as the last cycle. So maybe it's a quiet confidence...or maybe, I'm full of carp. Just thinking out loud.

That impressed me too from the presentation.

why AMD fb so much hype?? so much expect killing other..:bonk: Radeon Kill GeForce and now Ryzen kill Broadwell.. let's see the real world nowIntel&Nvidia still:rock: just thinking loud & find bright idea:infinity:

It would be great if it come out in 2016 but now its not much of worth unless price dirt cheap.

How do you work that one out? Competition is great. Sooner would be better but 2017 doesn't suddenly make it pointless.

I see it the other way around. If AMD had something really amazing with Ryzen they should be hyping this to the heavens to prevent people from buying Intel´s cpus until Ryzen is finally released... For me the lack of hype from AMD seems to indicate that Ryzen is a good product and nothing more. Of course i could be totally wrong so lets wait for the official release and reviews to see what Ryzen is really worth.

David Kanter says the architecture falls between Skylake and Ivybridge in terms of design. AMD made trade-offs that are going to impact the performance on certain workloads - but those trade-offs reduced the size and TDP of the chip (like the 128bit AVX). He says AMD was probably hoping that by reducing the power they could clock it higher and compete in some of those workloads that way. He talked about their branch prediction and basically said it's a pretty standard system that the neural net stuff is mostly marketing - he also said it's going to take a few iterations before AMD has a branch prediction as robust as Intel's. He mentioned he liked their cache implementation and larger cache. He did say that Intel's implementation had some unique advantages in power though. Idk, given that architecture breakdown and the leaked benches we have so far - I think Zen is going to match Intel clock for clock in certain workloads (including gaming related ones) but there are going to be a lot of CPU oriented benches where it's going to lose to Intel - especially server related ones. Zen is going to mostly compete with pricing and honestly if the leaked pricing is true, it seems like it's going to be a really good $/perf. The workloads where it does fall behind most gamers probably won't care about.

I still haven't heard that review. The "between Skylake and Ivy" is a bit vague though, at least compared to what I've read in Anandtech about Zen's architecture. I also wonder why the marketing team used the "neural network" nomenclature. I'm sure it's not like that exactly, but there must have been something different on the design, for the marketing team to focus on it.
