No DRM? So I wonder, did they not tell people because they wanted to have it look like they'd run DRM, or did it not work, or did they simply not bother to implement it, which actually would make it a "good" quality, like GOG markets as "DRM free"? Anyway, I doubt publishers are happy about this.

Would be nice to take advantage of it...but not if it hurts the devs.

Don't worry, they already got paid via EGS exclusive deals. They don't need sales anymore. If anything, you could argue you hurt Epic.

If Epic wants to go the GOG route, it would be the first good thing it did to "differentiate" itself from Steam. But I doubt that is the case. Also, isn't a game's DRM implemented by the devs (regardless of who gives them the order to do so)? I thought Gearbox implemented DRM's into the previous titles?

Could be on publisher side. Publisher requires developer to implement specific DRM

Yeah, sure. That's why I've included the "regardless of who gives the order" part. This seems like Gearbox/2k (is it 2k?) flub here.

Silly... assuming epic would actually implement features required to run an online store.

Or it's just a clever trick by Epic. Now a flood of people will buy games and try to refund them to play for free but that won't work because "Refund service unavailable" ๐Ÿ˜€

I feel dumber now for reading this. This is simply being able to launch the game without Epic's launcher running. This is true of any game that doesn't use DRM. You'd think this would be praised as a feature.

Did that researcher make sure the game he tried to access wasn't DRM-free? Because that would be the whole point. DRM-free games will run anywhere after installing them. More info would have been helpful.

your phone probably has a chinese spyware (at least a logger/telemetry application, even on android one devices), maybe not active, but probably installed in the phone firmware or system partition... So fare there are no proofs that Epic Store is sanding data to Chinese government or affiliates. So fare Epic is not banning no-one for speaking against China repressions in HK (like rapes of teenagers by police)

Still, Epic is 45% owned by Tencent... Go read about this technology / shareholding mastodon... They are litteraly dissssssssgusting.

So is your invalid argument.

A new vulnerability was spotted in the Epic Games Store system. Willian Worrall of CCN said that this security allows users to work around the systemโ€™s security to access a game without owning it.... Epic Games Store Vulnerability, Borderlands 3 DRM Concerns
I knew about this for months, from basically first week of the service, I assumed its a feature and been using it, i had one Russian account and one regualr account and this allowed me to mix games from both without changing accounts each time.

Says there' spyware in about 2 billion android devices without proof. Says since there's no proof of it in Epic launcher, there can't be any. Says Epic's not suppressing free speach when there's no forums of their's. Mkay. (And no I don't think that the launcher has Chinese spyware. I'm also not wearing my tin foil hat right now.)
