Hmm, *looks at calendar date*... yup can't trust anything today. But if it's still cancelled tomorrow then oh no, where will Starfield gameplay be shown off for the first time.

The initial news of this actually landed when both US and EU were still in March, and to be honest its a rather believable piece of news and not in any way a good joke. Of course, some companies have been known to make terrible April's Fools.
Its not that surprising if real, anyway. E3 has been going down hill for a while now, and COVID just accelerated that.

Even if this is a joke, does anyone care?
E3 has been a dead horse for years.

I'm from a time when E3 still mattered. I remember buying magazines to see all the new announcements.
There were a couple shows on TV that showed videos from E3. And for the time, it was awesome.
But times change, and E3 has not been relevant for many years. So this cancelation is inconsequential.
Studios should just publish their trailers online, some info about the game and be done with it.
No point in spending thousands of dollars on a show, just to entertain gaming journalists.

E3 is one of those events that, while I never had the chance to actually ever visit, I remember fondly from the "good old days" of printed magazines. There always was some sort of special xxl editions coming out around this event with loads of exciting articles (from a time when gaming journalism was actually good) and photos from the announcements each year.
But just like magazines, I think events like these are a relic of the past. In this day and age there are simply a lot better/convenient (and cheaper) ways to announce stuff, especially in this industry.

For me Gaming Industry are suffering heavelly with the bad practices of Developers, gaming journalists and even some reviewers sometimes (not their fault). The last example for me was Gran Turismo 7, the game had excelent reviews, and some days after received a new patch that restructed all the ingame rewards/nerfs turning it to a grind fest (almost a mobile game practices).
For me now is, wait a year until the game is playable, stable and after a good backlash of the comunity for bad practices you can have a good game. I'm having more fun with older games that have good suport from modding comunities (and sometimes I send them some money to suport the projects, like Supreme Commander) that newer games that are having a lot of trouble.

Shhhhhh hear that.... that's the world's smallest violin playing.for anyone who thought E3 actually mattered any more.
You have two major factors that have rendered E3 redundant.
1). Publishers, developers or console makers know they can get a better deal using their own media channels. It costs them less, has a more engaged audience and they don't have to share the spot light with anybody else.
2). The average consumer is so bombarded with spoilers, teasers and vertical slices via their average everyday activities, it's shocking to think that publioshers / developers have anything 'new' that they could show at something like E3.

I have not watched E3 in years. Its been a sad joke, and after what I heard and read about last years political woke fest, this is not a bit of surprise.
I do miss the good days of E3. When it was exciting whether you were a PC person or console fan.
